I was watching the men's 4x100, and saw that the British team was now going by the moniker "Great Britain & N.I.," which I assume means ". . . and Northern Ireland." I have never seen that means of identifying the British before in international competition.
In World Cup qualifying and finals, England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland compete separately.
In the Olympics, I have seen them all brought under the umbrella of "United Kingdom."
Does anyone know what determines how they compete, separately vs. together, in various international competitions?
Other similarly situated "countries" who have competed on their own: American Samoa, British Virgin Islands, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands.
