Yesterday at the track, I ran 4 x 400 with 2 minutes rest between each run. I ran each set at a steady pace, not sprinting in the last 100M. I thought of it as if I had another lap to go at least while I was running the one lap. My times were 71, 73, 73, 74 while aiming for 75s. I want to run a fast mile before the summer is over, should I run it next week with a 4:50ish friend of mine, or should I continue to do speedwork? I never, ever do speedwork, and last week I did 4 200s around 31 ave., and now this. Do you think I have the ability to run a 4:59 mile? BTW I ran a 5:35 mile on an uphill course in NH with gravel roads on a day that was about 90 degrees about 1.5 months ago, as a indicator of fitness (and a 5:27 road pr set in heat). Please reply, and help would be appreciated.
