Anyone ever have pilonidal abscess? I'm on antibiotics now and am seeing a surgeon soon. Did anyone have the surgery for it, will it affect my training?

I'm assuming this is the same as a pilonidal cyst, only infected. I had the surgery about 10-11 years ago. It's out patient, but basically what they did was open up the cavity and let it heal, at least with me. It'll be a while before you'll be running. I was out of work for about 2-3 weeks, very sore back there. I had had mine for sometime and it had become quite large. Maybe yours is smaller and won't be so bad. Good luck.
any other options besides surgery then
I put mine off for quite a while. In my case, it was only really a problem when it was infected. If you've got someting coming up, you could probably delay the surgery until afterwards, but eventually, it will abcess again. The way it was explained to me is that every time it gets infected, it creates a larger cavity, therefore, the longer the wait, the more invasive the surgery is going to be.
