I just realized I put Kimani on here. I'll put him on there for non-running reasons though, he'd be on there even if he never ran a step.

I recently read about a guy named Abdul Sattar Edhi, a man who founded the first medical clinic in Karachi, Pakistan. Since then he now runs 320 clinics across the country that give healthcare to Pakistani's regardless of caste or creed. He also gives free help after natural disasters, runs the largest private fleet of ambulances in the world that charge miniscule costs, gives free funeral services to people who can't afford them, runs a network of orphanages and schools and sanctuaries for victims of domestic abuse.
Pretty cool guy if you ask me.

That's the first name that popped into my head too.
Of course, he was a runner, but it's his courage and perseverance that made him a hero to all Canadians, and not really the act of running that set him apart.

No question, it's Pat Tillman. Very sad that there is a controversy surrounding his death, it takes away from what he stood for. That, and all he gave up (NFL contract/career), not a lot of people would have given up all that to put themselves in harms way.
Maynard? You've got to be joking. That guy is a nihilistic loser.
Fidel Castro - now THAT guy stands for something.
