When was it supposed to be, again? Tomorrow? I live so close, I COULD literally bike down there and see, but IIRC the damn thing was to start at 6am, and well, I might want to sleep in..

I just saw this post. Unfortunately, i don't remember when it was supposed to start. I am truly itching for a report from the start, though, so if you get a wild hair and feel like going down and checking it out, I know I'd be interested. Hey, you can always nap later, right?
Just got back from Indy, had a great time. Ran the IU half, nice college town, everyone was friendly. No Indy Classic Marathon sign-up sheets or anything at the expo. I asked around, no one had even heard of a marathon that was supposed to be occurring. No surprise there. Very humid in Bloomington but it was cloudy all day, so no troubles. Probably would have been decent enough to run a marathon in Indianapolis, but WDIK?
The Children's Museum was a huge hit with my kids (and my wife), thanks for that suggestion, absolutely it was the perfect thing to do.
Had dinner and drinks at some micro-brewery downtown near the Hyatt, excellent food and beer. I have nothing but good to say about Indiana. The only thing missing from this experience is the marathon finisher medal. Oh well... at least I won't mind coming back...

You know, I went to their site and it said they were mailing confirmations, and there was no packet pickup on race day. After reading that, I assumed no one would show up race day -- people either would have figured something was wrong when they didn't get a confirmation in the mail, or they would have figured it out when they tried to pickup their packet, which never happened either.
Or they were actually informed that the race was postponed....
Here's another thing that is so weird about the Indy Classic: the near lack of any discussion on the Runners World forum. So far there's been from what I can tell, only two threads on it. One basic "Anybody running this race" type and one about the schedule change and refunds. Only three posters over there apparantly signed up.
Usually the posters there are very vocal about their goal races, with endles threads and posts about their "training," their progress, and race weekend logistics. Odd that it's so quiet.
Yeah, but nordicpolewalking.com is all atwitter about about the race..
Where do I find a nordicpole?

I'd check at the Polish Embassy, Olav Kyrres Plass 1, N-0273, Oslo.
Has anyone heard any update with this race? I have called several times, and emailed once, that I was available to volunteer but I have had no contact back.
Looks like things are improving...

I wonder if they will change the start time. Right now it still says 7:00 am. Sunrise on Nov. 3 is 8:15 am, which means you could conceivably run the half and be done before sunrise. DST ends the the next day, and sunrise is back to 7:15 am. Probably they don't realize this, or are unaware that DST has been pushed back into November. Starting the race in the dark doesn't seem safe, I dunno.
Anyone want to place bets on how the 6500 participants are divided up across the marathon/half marathon/5k distances? For the sake of this question, let's forego the debate on whether or not there will actually BE that many...
My guess:
400 26.2 marathon (6%)
2000 13.1 marathon (31%)
4200 5k marathon (64%)

6500? The site claims 13,000! I guess those other 6500 are in the 5k pole walk marathon.
I saw in the paper that the city is reviewing their request to host the marathon and that they hope to run it on Nov 3rd. At first it was shut down, but they regathered their stuff and the second time they were prepared and the city will try to help them this time. The biggest issue was the time line and using off duty police officers for security on the course.

"We understand that this may cause some of you to rethink your commitment to running in this year's event due to scheduling conflicts; if that is the case we will offer a refund. To compensate for the inconvenience for those who are registered as of August 21, 2007 and remain registered for this year and participate in the event, Indy Classic Marathon will give entry to the dinner buffet for free, and a 50% off an entry into next year’s event, at this year's prices."
LOL. Next year's event.
I would have thought there would another article in the News Paper since their meeting was last Tuesday. Has anyone heard anything else on the Marathon?
They now say registrations are at 15,000 and they are getting thousands of requests to re-open registrations (following Chicago).
From indyclassicmarathon.com
Comedy gold. Hope you got on the waiting list, this is one POPULAR marathon!!! Of course it is very common for a group of 10,000 plus runners to decide to converge upon a first-time marathon. It would be stupid not to do that! We'll all meet at the expo, wherever that is. The menu for the pasta party looks great, but it might be a bit crowded. Get your spot now! Don't worry, even with 15,000 "participants", there are plenty of hotel rooms left!
But wait, there's some news!!!
Ooh, I hope everyone on the "waiting list" got in! Hurry, there is a limited amount of time for you to send your money. I recommend the 26.2 marathon, it's much easier than that 5k marathon - whew that's a long ways, even without Nordic Poles! Don't worry, as long as you did not confirm your registration before Oct 1, you'll get a refund ... whatever that is supposed to mean...
Is this a SNL skit? A hoax? Can anything be this ridiculous? Are you kidding me?!?!?!?! The lies are getting more and more fabulous! This is either a train wreck or brilliant satire! Great job ICM!!!!
