Any of you have any experience buying a used waterski boat? I'm looking for something around 10K with 500 hours or less. What are some of the things you need to look for?
Thanks.

Inboard or outboard? I have more experience with outboards, but here goes. Always check the transom. Tilt motor or outdrive up and and bounce on the lower unit. Look for any flexing of the transom or stress cracks. Older boats use a sheet of marine plywood in the transom as a stiffener, a leaky transom will cause this to rot and be less rigid. Check the bilge area for unusual smells or stains. A little musty is OK, but heavy gas and oil could be a problem. Lower unit oil should be dark, not milky or burnt smelling. Always go for a test drive.Once you narrow your chioces down, get a compression check on the motor, especially if its an outboard. Don't forget about the trailer, look for grease slung out on the inside of the wheels and axle indicating a bad seal, uneven tire wear, rust, check the brakes, if it has them. Drum brakes=bad, disc brakes=good. Drums tend to hold water and rust.
In general, the overall appearance will probably give some indication of how its been cared for, trash all over, stains on the interior, ratty upholstery, etc.
Good Luck
