Llewellyn Starks = Hard Luck ... compound fracture of his leg when his hit the takeoff board. I can't imagine landing in the pit with a broken leg.

I was on the infield at Wein that day and heard the crack.... I thought the starter( Joe Caruso?) had discharged his recall.22 by accident the sound was that loud. We were doing live-to-tape and this happened at the very end of the T.V. window so no way to cover it. Transworld Sport the TV provider has a wildreel of it somewhere I'm sure. The whole width of the infield separated me from the pit but the sound carried.
