Did any of you who are so dismayed by the 'inaccuracies' of Without Limits not watch the very first 5 minutes of the movie where Bowerman in a voiceover states that the following story is not the exact truth but is a very likely story? The filmmakers aren't stupid and know that people like yourselves are going to be complaining about the biographical inaccuracies and they addressed that right from the outset of the film. It's not supposed to be a completely true story, it's just the likely story of Pre's life - whatever that means. Well, what it means is that they are not going to tell everything exactly as it happened and instead will fictionalize certain parts of Pre's life and story. Take a film class or something for Pete's sake.
And as far as spanning Pre's entire life from high school, that would just be boring to the general movie goer. Definitely the most exciting part of Pre was when he got older and started making waves on the elite running stage. If they chose to follow his progression from high school to '75, the movie would be 3 hours long.
And how sexy do you think it would be for Pre to mess up his foot on a diving board? Having him wreck his chance at NCAAs because he was doin' the power ranger is way more cool.
