I think the reality is that he thought it was "complete BS" because of the (almost certainly incorrect) 0 wind reading. No one can accuse Flo-Jo of rigging the wind gauge.

Listening to her speak is a reminder of what a baritone Flojo, a soprano just a year before, had mysteriously become. Gee, I wonder how that happened.

Funny how in the past decade the times are no where near what they used to be.

I read something later that he wanted to discredit her drug-aided performance right away but the other announcer shushed him, so he had to talk about wind gauges, timers, and anything but drugs. Remember, Ben Johnson hadn't been caught at the time, so it was very taboo to discuss, especially on air.

WANDA FUNKLE in 1967 ran 100m in 14.4. That is still the fastest drug-free women's 100m of all time. Saiuri Watanuinui ran a 10.12 in '74 and claimed she did not use drugs, but later it was discovered she had more drugs in her than there is in a Walmart store.
