My current 5k pace (at the age of 42) is my half-marthon pace of 6 years ago. My training intensity and milage are about the same.
Does that rate of decline seem appropriate?

When I turned 42, my marathon pace became my 5K pace from a few years earlier.
When I first read your post I thought "no way", but after I thought about it a bit ....I was able to run 1:12.30 at age 36 - at age 43 I could choke out a 17:03 - so it may seem like a drastic change, but I'm right there with you.
Also, I'm age 46 now - a 5 minute mile feels like a 4:30 mile used to feel.
Getting older, but smarter, and richer, but can't get laid by my own wife to save my life.
The decline is rather frightening. Mine may be more severe than most, but at 55 years-old, I can't run a 5K at my marathon pace from 20 years ago.
