What does everyone think about LinkedIn.
Valuable professional career building and networking tool, which helps you get a great job and do business?
or
Online virus which resembles getting signatures in your high school yearbook?

Virus. Not nearly as nice as a yearbook.
Most of the nudges I get from LinkedIn are from foreign, Asiatic-named characters whom I don't know and who work for the same large company I do.

You must be messed up then. Linked is fine. I've never had any problems with it and neither has anyone else I know. There are tons of US people on there. I would say mostly US. Is it effective as a networking tool? I don't know about that, but there is no harm in it.
Is it worth doing?

I'd say you have nothing to lose but a bit of time. I think it could be effective for networking if you are aggressive with it. I pretty much signed up, found friends and co-workers (past and present) and left it be. I didn't really try to make it work for me, nor did I really have any reason to try.
Thanks.
