It is my sincere hope that Alberto Salazar recognizes the immense positive influence he's had on my life, and the life of countless others whom he's inspired. Alberto, I believe your running is a vehicle for inspiring courage, dedication and perserverence in others. I join others in recognition that your examples in the pursuit of excellence transcend sport and apply to life's broader context. I believe you have contributed much more than you recognize, and that you have more to give.
I'll admit to some respectful disagreement with some aspects of Alberto's behavior over the years. The public scrutiny of famous person's private lives must certainly be a burden at times. I'm grateful my personal life is not subject to such scrutiny and I certainly recognize nobody is perfect. Let he whom is perfect cast the first stone.
I read somewhere that Alberto would recite to himself "I will not be broken" during hard races and difficult training sessions. Whether this is accurate or not, I do not know but I've spent many a painful moment reminding myself "I will not be broken". Thank you Alberto.
