greatest college baskeballer ever.
That was some good stuff. 44 points per game in college -- unreal.
"you don't get to this level by just wishing"
- great quote
Maravich is one of my favorites too. Those highlights are a little weak tho. He's just shooting jump shots in 90 percent of them. Now this larry bird montage is amazing. Enjoy. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ULvo7__wwBU

With no 3-point line.
And no shot clock.
Know who deserves mention as a damn solid white player..
how about Rik Smits
or Mark Price
and how about the guy you'd want to shoot a 3 at the end of the game, Steve Kerr!
Maravich was the most prolific scorer to ever play. The problem with that is that every team he ever played on had to suffer. Usually, having a hot-dog on your team left you open for more scoring opportunities, but Maravich wanted to take every shot.
His teams never won a championship. His and his fathers devotion to the game came with a heavy toll. They moved around so much (starting his freshman year of high school) that mother Maravich had no social life. The men lived and breathed basketball. She literally went insane. The entire family became alcoholics, save Press, who was obsessed with basketball, driving everyone deeper into depression.
Lots of lessons to be learned in the story of his life.

Maybe I'm dating myself, but this list seems incomplete without a couple of names like Cousy and Havlicek
Years before his death, at the age of 25, Maravich told Pennsylvania reporter, Andy Nuzzo, "I don't want to play 10 years in the NBA and then die of a heart attack at 40."
He died of a heart attack at age 40.
Jerk that he may have been, it's kinda weird to leave Rick Barry off any ten-person all-white boy team.
Pete Maravich may have been a nice highlight reel but he never helped a team win, rarely if ever even helped them to get to .500, and in terms of hogging the ball, he made Iverson and Kobe look positively altruistic.
imagine if the nba had pistol today? it could use it.
Pete was something else.
That video is OK, but it highlights his shooting, when it was his dribbling that was out of this world. He was unmatched for quiet exuberance.
Drazen Petrovic has to be on the all white team...early tragic auto death makes him something of a Croatian Basketball Pre, no?
