njl2, what are your running PRs?
njl2, what are your running PRs?
does is matter? i run about 4 minutes faster than this guy walks, but who cares? If i ran 19 minutes in the 5k i'd feel the same way
ummmm who gives a shit
Lets Run!!!
I'm really glad this thread came up actually.
...I needed to be reminded that if I ever wake up saying "Racewalking is cool!" I need to kill myself right away.

Yoann Diniz the French World 50km walk champion strode to a superb 18:35 time for 5000 track at a meet in Paris recently, and his under distance speed was most impressive, because he is a 50km walker.
In a related story, the world's tallest midget recently broke the world record for the person who can whisper the loudest without talking.
Details at 11.
"does is matter?" Holy shit, with that grammar you got to be a flaming homo. I only *WISH* I could see you in person. Someone as insecure as you has to be incredibly pathetic.
I laugh at guys like you ALL the time.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. The point of racing is to get to the finish line as fast as possible, so why move your in a way that is slower? I do think that they should have only one competitive stroke and track should have one competitive why to race; running. run over hills, barriers water pits whatever just get from point A to point B as fast as you can. They should do the same with swimming, use only the fastest stroke and race it different distances.
What is your point, then? That you only respect someone who swims freestyle because it's a faster stroke than butterfly? So swimming should drop back, breast and fly and only have one competitive stroke?

I kind of agree with njl2, but don't see the need to denigrate Diniz's performance. Obviously, there are a lot of runners here who admire him. I do too, except for the fact that I find racewalking totally uncompelling. I enjoy watching horse racing too sometimes, but not the trotters. I also don't see the comparison between hurdles or steeplechase and racewalking. I don't care what anyone says, racewalking is highly unnatural fro mthe perspective of form and from my perspective is almost painful to watch.
I'll bet there is someone out there who can skip a 18:30 5k. Why isn't that and IAAF event?
Also, what's the obsession with everyone's PR's? As a fan of track and field is it impermissible not to like something if you can't run faster than the best racewalker?
obviously that was a typo. I meant, does it matter. What are guys like me?
Here's why I don't like racewalking:

The use of the word "walking" is misleading.
njl2 actually has some good points here. While I don't think he needs to knock this racewalker bloke, he is right. What is the point of limiting yourself in this manner? The replies he has got are unbelievably stupid.
"Breaststroke is just as hard" - it may be, but it limits your speed. Read his posts. It seems bizzare to have so many different swimming disciplines. It should come down to who can move fastest in the water, period.
"What about steeple chase and hurdles?" This is a case of the environment providing obstacles, not the person imposing them on themselves. As he said you still go as fast as YOU possibly can.
"What about basketball" - You, my friend, are a moron. It's a game. Sports are diverse, but in sports that involve being the fastest from A to B there is no need for rediculous limitations.
No doubt those guys are talented athletes, but the sport I'm afraid is rediculous. The cycling equivalent would be a tricycle race.
Well... race walking does in fact look stupid and probably is pointless, but you see, I don't give a shit. Yet you do. Hmmm... I wonder why? Think about that one for a second.
Na, you're probably too retarded to figure it out so I'll just go ahead and say it. Strong guys who attain, and rightfully deserve, power and respect aren't like you. They don't have to belittle people; matter of fact most of the time they simply choose not to. You on the other hand are a pussy. I mean f***! You have a need to prove yourself on a f***ing RUNNING MESSAGEBOARD out of all f***ing damn places. How pathetic is that!?!? Shit!
All you did was piss a lot of people off and made the other pussies huddle around you. Good job, pussy.

Most world class walkers have long careers, because because the walking action is less trauma inducing compared with running. Some people think that the hip swaying is damaging, but if the style is correct, there is no damage to the hip.
Walking is natural, because for very long distances walking is more economical and natural. You can only train
so much as a runner, but elite walkers can walk up to 5 hours a day, at times.
World class walkers do a lot more core exercises, weights, stretching and other supplementary physical work compared with runners.
Just look at the pictures posted of Jefferson Perez (Ecuadorean Olympic and World champion) and the Colombian and Mexican - they have similar builds/physiques to lighweight boxers - rock hard abs., well developed(albeit small) pectorals, strong arms and legs, on a light frame.
World class walkers often look like perfect physical specimens - the same could not be said for runners.
When some of my runners are injured, I encourage them to walk. If they can find hills - better still. They will not lose much fitness that way.

I agree with njl2.
Racewalking is a pointless sport because you have to consciously limit your body movement. It's almost like a NASCAR race where each driver is only allowed to push the engine to a certain RPM. A dumbed-down competition.
Plus, I have no respect for champion racewalkers because 99.99% of people don't give a shit about racewalking, and therefore champ walkers are just losers trying to find weak competitions so they can win at something. Kind of like Dean K and his Ultra marathons.
I love when someone calls other people out for being "morons" yet doesn't even know how to spell "RIDICULOUS"
Now there is a good one. Look racewalking has a set of rules that govern their sport. So they ARE using their bodies to the limit as the rules allow them to, where is the difference? In running you must be the fastest from A to B. Great, in racewalking you must be the fastest from A to B while walking, there you must walk other than that use your body to its potential.

Hahahahahahahaha, WOW. A couple of things about this video.
#1. HIGH SCHOOL kids race walking?! I give them props for even WANTING to do this because I'm sure they take shit from everyone at school. Seriously, you talk about distance runners not being popular at school, how cool is it to be the race walker on the track team? That sucks!
#2. Kid walked a 7:12 mile?! Holy crap that it self pretty amazing, some people couldn't run that for their life.
... seriously though, I'm with everyone else on race walking. Why not have a skipping race event? I'm sure that to be a really fast skip-racer that you have to be in great physical shape, train lots of miles, and have a great body. I don't see how this is any different than race walking. Yes, I understand race walking is difficult and hard and that those guys are good athletes, but so would a "skip racer" or a guy who raced backwards. I'm surprised race walking has taken off this far to make it as an event in a HS National Race.
I give props to Race walkers and at the same time I wonder how a lame ass event like that even got started and still exists.
I never said anything derogatory towards race walkers first of all. I also am not trying to prove myself, i believe the only time I mentioned myself was when you asked. I have only stated the reasons why I think racewalking and all swim strokes except freestyle are ridiculous. I never said they weren't difficult, I know they are but I still don't see the point in racing in a way that limits your natural ability.

Ok, i never said it wasnt hard or that it wasnt a good workout, but i still don't understand the point in racing it. Its like trying to fight someone using tae bo.
