Doesn't he have the top mile time in the nation? Does anyone know why he's running the 2 as opposed to the 1? I'm sure there must have been a thread on this that I missed.

Like how Don Sage ran the 2-mile at 2000 outdoor nationals and got creamed before he ran 4:00.37 at Prefontaine Classics 2 weeks later?
4:00.29
I love the two mile at Nationals the past winners Simkins,Banks,Craft and Tate all part of Nationals 2 Mile history.Sweet!
Maybe because he is running the 1500 at Jr. Nats and he doesn't want to run what is essentially the same distance 2 weekends in a row? Maybe because the bigger names are in the 2 mile and he wants to hand them their asses? - the mile has fast people, but you wouldn't recognize as many of the names unless you're a dyestat junkie. Maybe because he's always done the 2 mile at htis meet and he wants to chart his progress? Who knows?
Matt's best events are going to be the longer distances (3K, 2M, 5K,10K, and longer). He has unbelievable endurance.
Maybe he just wants to continue to see how he compares to some of the nation's best runners at the longer distance. Don't forget, until this spring the 2M was by far his best event. With his new found foot speed I think he has to be considered the guy to beat with Forys right there in the mix as well.
And also, he just likes the 2M distance.
Exactly, he wants a change in distance. But he is running the 5k at Jr. Nats, you heard it here first...
Maybe he doesn't want a piece of Sam Borchers who has better finishing speed.
Thats ridiculous. Matt is not afraid of going against anyone.
"new found foot speed", are you kidding me? Do you even know Centrowitz? He wants to equalize his Mile performance and get a challenge against established 2-Milers.
Guess we'll find out at the USATF Junior Nats 1500- that is if Matt doesn't duck Sam there also..
Actually, I know Matt really well and he'd be the first to admit that he has worked primarily on his foot speed. He naturally has more endurance than speed, but his speed has obviously improved greatly this year.
If he can't run sub 4 with professionals, then he can't do it with high school kids. So I think running the 2 is probably a better fit right now, plus the comp will be good.
8:41....I guess that's why. Now he has the top mile and 2 mile times this year.
He went where the competition was. Forys, Springer and Jager.
Good try f***er, Centro will demolish Borchers in the 1500.

Borchers has cruised a couple 149 splits in the 4 X 8 and jogged 151 and 152s the last couple weeks after racewalking 4 teens in the 1600. If anyone can push him, he will run 4:01.4 in the mile. His best race will be at juniors where he will go 3:41.2 in the 1500. Borchers has mastered the art of running while looking behind him so he only has to run fast enough to win. Since he is in the small division in Ohio, he never has to run very hard.

why would you use the name of a top triple jumper from the 70s?
just curious
well, at least you know what hes going to run. if he runs 3:41 i'll get on my knees and blow you.
Guess we'll see about that one.
