i dont know why they didnt mention it, but thats an insanely fast time (3:00.04)...
i think it might be 3rd all time..
... So at the end of the race Summers was pounding the track because they barley missed breaking 3 minutes and the CR, right? I was surprised nobody brought that up.
what were the other splits
Actually was 2nd leg. By the way, is the "leg turnover"thing contagious? Now Dwight Stones is using it just like Larry Rawson!
perhaps...
they were still a good half second away from the CR, but heartbreakingly close to being only the 3rd team to ever run under 3:00.00...
that group of guys ran a REALLY impressive race..they have to have just set the school record which is really saying something at Baylor..
to have run faster than BUs all-star teams of 03'-05' is really saying something about them running their best at the right time..
Their anchor, Quentin Summers, overcame a bad ankle sprain last week to split 44.6. Super job by a great group of young men. A school record is no small thing at any school, but to hold it at Quarter miler U is very impressive indeed.

ANd the announcers like usual show they are morons. Going on about how he was making a rookie mistake by not going out hard with the other guys. Its pathetic how people who are supposed to know the sport dont understand how a 400 is supposed to be run. The other guys went out in a 21 and closed in a 24+ probably. Thats not how its supposed to be run. The best way to run the 400 is to run your race at the pace you can handle...about a 1 second positive split. It should never be controlled by what others do. This freshmans "rookie mistake" was really him showing he's wise beyond his years, and a hell of a lot more suited to announce the meet then those who did it.
I think I heard the announcers differently on that one. When he (Baylor's guy) got the baton he had about 10-15 meters on the rest of the field. In second place was LSU's man and he tried to catch Baylor's guy in the first half of that leg. The announcers said that he (the LSU guy) was making a rookie mistake by trying to run Baylor down in the first 200m, thus rendering himself too tired for a strong finish in the home straight.
Maybe you and I are talking about different parts of the race. I think you must be talking about the part where Baylor's second leg didn't run the first 100m hard enough before the break line and found himself tucked into 3rd or 4th position at the 200m mark. The announcers said he made a mistake by not going to the front early.
Either way, you're right. The announcers are idiots most of the time. But I think they made a good call on that first instance I talked about.
obvioiusly he's talking about Baylor's 2nd leg
