Because to be the NCAA Woman of the Year, you have to be a senior. It is not a track thing, it is an NCAA thing...
The great thing is that both runners are to be lauded for their dedication to studies - Sikes for her obvious stratospheric level of academic achievement and Kipyego for doing so much to matriculate in a nursing program in the face of really (beyond imagine for most of us Westerners) difficult life challenges. I have mentioned this before, but Keith Bechtol of William and Mary - who ran the 10k finals - is also deserving of special acclaim - on the men's side - he may just be the best student athlete in Division 1 - a straight A student in physics and winner of a highly prestigious physics scholarship (great way to help out the athletic budget) given only to the most promising physics students in the country. The NCAA spin machine ought to make mention of these athletes.
She's a Rhodes Scholar.
