torpy is a moron, and the kid from upper moreland on their squad is rumored to have slept with numerous teammates
male teammates
Charlotte got the best kid: Dakota Lowery
4:12.75 mile--- 4:11.3 1600
15:24 footlocker South--- 4A NC XC State Runner up
Lowery is a great track runner, we'll see if it translates to collegiate 5m/10k
Those McAlpine times are always fast, then they go to FL Nationals and dont even approach them, 15:24 IMHO is a 16:00-10 @VCP
Where is the meet held and what's the course like?
Just doing a little research on some of these kids...this Vicker kid STL got ran 9:22 at the Drake Relays, and this Ross kid ran 1:58 at the Illinois State meet..i have no idea why this intrigues me, but stl is improving, which might be a good indication that the A-10 is improving as a whole...i mean if stl is getting better???...come on, the conference has to be getting better right?
2007 meet is in Phila at Belmont Plateau.
Course consists of 5 loops (8k):
The first loop is around the main area of the Plateau ~1 mile with a small hill at the beginning of the loop. This loop is run 3 times - first, third and fifth loop.
The second loop is the most difficult. It features Parachute Hill with a very steep face. The backside of Parachute features a quick downhill.
The fourth loop is a relatively new addition. Consisting of a slight drop followed by ascent back towards the main area.
It should be noted that this course is completely different than the old 5M course and is much easier. The old course featured the front loop as the initial and final miles. The course changed after the descent from Parachute - instead of returning to the front loop, it winded further into the park and culminated in the most challenging climb Surekill, named after the boardering highway (Schuylkill Expressway).
Lack of maintenance funds allowed the back part of the course to be overgrown, washed out and in some spots impassable because of trash and abandoned cars. All this happened while Philadelphia taxes rose (wage and consumption). Thanks a lot Mayors Wilson Goode, Ed Rendell and John Street - maybe the new guy will get it right.
BTW - the 8k course record is held by Sean Quigley from 2005; I think it's just under 24:30. Teddy Meyers was second in that race about 10 seconds back and has the second fastest time. Andre Laboy, who won in 2003, previously had the record in about 24:48.
the old course is ruined?! wtf?
i had no idea it had been allowed to fall apart like that. that really sucks. the new course sounds like garbage.
my god that freakin surekill was miserable though.
the back of the course is not overgrown, you can still run up surekill itself. the thing is, i've seen it, and it's not nearly as bad as parachute, so i don't see how the old course could be that much harder, unless there was another hill.if you ask me, it's a lot of old timers trying to play it off like things were so much harder way back when.
and the course still starts and finishes with a front loop. so basically the only difference is instead of the a10 trail, a narrow, barely passable, rocky, roller coaster of a trail, you had to go up surekill. and unless there was something on surekill that isn't there any longer, the NEW course is much harder.
the thing is, i surekill is the toughest hill ever. there was once an irish runner who would run really fast to get a lead so he could walk up it. the a10 trail is weak. i think the a10 trail is just an excuse by newer runners to say their weak times are better than they actually are
how about the women!
lasalle will win the women's side as usual
just heard from a source that dayton is looking at some shoddy canidates for their head position...a high school coach, and 2 coaches from grand valley st.
