So I was about to go swim at the NAU pool yesterday and saw someone hauling ass at the track. The dude was pretty tall for a runner and had brown hair, so I decided to go over and see if it happened to be Buster, since I heard he was training in town. Sure enough it was him, but by the time I got there he was doing his cooldown. Didn't talk to him, but maybe I'll go stalk next Tuesday and see what kind of workouts he's doing haha.
Today, I was running past the track and saw two very lanky, thin guys walking across the parking lot and as I got closer, I saw one of them was Bernard Lagat. I asked him how his training is going and what he's getting ready for, etc. He said his training is going very well right now(but would he really say if it was going bad?) and that he's getting ready for New York on June 2nd(Reebok Grand Prix) and then the Prefontaine Classic. He said he is staying away from the track right now. Oh and he wasn't wearing flats...Anyway, he introduced me to his brother (who I believe he said was William) and is a marathoner. His dog that started the fight on Run Like Hell was there too, along with his wife and kids.
Also, I believe it was early April, I saw Abdi just walking down the sidewalk downtown by himself looking pretty bored. I started talking to him and he seemed pretty surprised I knew who he was haha.
Anyway, I just think it's cool that there are so many high caliber athletes here in Flagstaff and they're all very approachable. I'd rather meet Bernard, Craig, or Abdi than some super-star celebrity. It's just too bad they're not super-stars themselves from being amazing athletes.
