Finish what you start, even if you have to crawl to the finish. Quitting any race, from 100M to marathon is a disgrace .

Well...Fred Flintstone was Cro-Magnon at best, right? The idea that quitting any race under any circumstances is disgraceful is a notion held by people who do not know the sport, who know that there are times when to live and run another day is the best one can hope for. I think 90 percent of the people who post here realize this, but I guess it has to be pointed out to Fred.
Dude I suffered a severe stress fracture in an indoor 1000 a while back and limped to the finish, making it worse. I didn't run again for four months. Sometimes dropping out is not a disgrace, it's the right thing to do.
I disagree. If someone is trying for an OT marathon qualifier of sub-2:22, and they hit the half-way mark off-pace at 1:11:30 and are really struggling, it is better to drop out and live to fight another day than to hobble through the 26.2-mile race when they are not able to perform optimally. That way, the afflicted athlete can go through 16-20 miles or so, call it a good road workout, drop out, and maybe find another marathon to shoot for in 4-6 weeks, as opposed to being fried for months by a bad, failed marathon race and not having given themselves another chance to attain their goal, which shouldbe more important than a blown race.
As for the 10,000-meter race, Wejo probably wanted to very badly...and could have finished the Pan-Am contest with his injury...and possibly torn his calf muscle off of his bone, thereby permanantly ending his running career. That's what happens with a strained or cramped muscle if you keep on it. So you're in favor of this decision so Wejo can finish the race at all costs? What's more important to Wejo, finishing the Pan-Am Games when he is clearly injured or gunning for the Olympic year? Even Dan Browne told Wejo "not to do something stupid."
That's horsecrap.

why dont you start a race with your wrists. start slitting and dont stop till you finished . you moron arsewipe
we don't like you fred. bam. bam bam bam!
....actually Fred make good point. Never quit.....it leads to bad habits in other areas of life as well. Al ways finish what you started (outside of injury of course).
I also say that almost everyone who is calling Fred an idiot, must have skeletons in there closet of quitting.
you suck

Fred makes a great point. American's can alway justify the cowardly path. When M Johnson pulled up lame in his 200M Olympic Trials final, American's blasted him for "faking" his injury, because he was behind in the race. To create a message board that accuses successful running champions of taking drugs without any proof, then saying its OK to quit on the Nation you were sent to represent is a disgrace. Winners never quit, quitters never win!
And guns don't kill people. People kill people, Any other worn out cliches you want to add, Dickhead. Go WEJO!
mj is not a winner? what retarded planet do you live on. plenty of winners drop out of races for reasons you will never know. you havent said one possitive thing on here yet. give me some examples of "good" runners and "good" coaches (besides of course, your self). i hope wejo and rojo can ban your stupid ass.
WorldClassFullOfCrap - really, how many people have to tell you that you are full of crap before you figure it out? You have nothing but nonsense to spread. Your "revolutionary" thoughts are amusing but only in the same way that the thoughts from the mentally derranged are amusing.
What a dork.
wcc1, since you coach a bunch of nasty kenyans you should know this, but aren't kenyans known for dropping out of races more consistently than any other group of distance runners? when they don't have it, they know they don't have it, because they know their bodies so well, due to the nature of their training.
likewise, wcc1 must know this, because he knows the bodies of his athletes so well, due to the nature of his coaching, because he is a coach, of kenyans, and he is NOT a prematurely middle-aged middle-class mid-midwestern choad sitting at his desk alt-ctrl'ing between letsrun.com and nambla.org all the live long day.

OHH, world clas coach gets the world-class bitch slap!
how embarrassing!
Ummm, I am the real World Class Coach #1 and I did not right the above comment. If I was going to trash Wejo for a DNF I would have trashed him about it a long time ago. But if you read my posts you know that I have criticized him for getting injured from his training and also for calling his coach a genius, not for actually dropping out.
Wejo did the right thing to drop out. I am adamantly opposed against finishing a race just to finish the race, especially when an athlete may be injured, sick, or simply having a bad day. There is no psychological or physical gain to just finish a race in this condition when there are bigger races to train for. Only in the Olympic games would I suggest someone to try to finish a race when I knew they were injured.
This is one of the reasons I have been banned. Because you have idiots like the above who have to steal my screen name and then people make complaints thinking it's me and then I'm the one who gets the brunt of it including getting banned.

Im really f***in pissed at all these guys that are critisizing Wejo today. Have you guys ever heard of the saying "Dont bite the hand that feeds you?" Im surprised Wejo hasnt just decided to shut down this board for good after all the crap said about him.
