Van Beck or Van Beek? Don't know his first name.
Thanks Malmo for proving my point (and you were close, but no cigar)....I think we have a WINNER.

I am pretty sure that Billy Mills and Gerry Lindgren damn near tied for a world record in a race a year or two after that olympic 10k.

I knew you'd answer this malmo.Regarding Moorcroft, do note I said he didn't do anywhere near as well in the SAME event. I'm not saying a guy from your time wasn't great. Also, regarding Marsh, I suppose 8:12 is close, but it's not like he was running 8:12, 8:12, 8:11, 8:10, and then 8:09.

Ran a 3:49 mile 2 weeks before the 5000 WR.

and I wouldn't go so far as to call them one hit wonders, but their best runs were way better than their second best...when considering time only].
Lower the AR from 8:12.

dude, don't feel bad for saying sammy was a one-race wonder. i didn't realize he ran 2:06 last year, but i still think that besides that race, he's run shitty compared to his 2:04:56. i'd call it a bad race if i ran 2, 4, or 5 minutes off my PR. yes, he's still one of the best in the world, but no longer in best form.

It was 1 year later, in the AAU 1965 Champs... in San Diego I think. They broke the WR for 6 miles... 27:11 and change. Mills won but they had the same time so both got credit for a WR.

Finally, not a slam on you Malmo; just to prove a point that, indeed, Erik De Beck (Belgium) is the winner of this contest.

i don't know, it was still the second fastest time last year. compared to Tergat and KK he is actually doing a bit better. And he is less than 2min away from that 2:04:56
If you were going to include women's events, it's Nouria Merah-Benida, 200 Olympic 1500-meter gold medalist
1952 OG gold 100 meters... Lindy Remigino
Hwang Young-Cho.

Belgian Eric de Beack was coaches by another belgian Gaston Roelants.
How about Chris Brasher winner of the 1956 oly steeplchase, not even Britain's #1. Of course one might argue that his more famous wonder race was as a pace maker for Bannister's 4 minute mile.
Peter Rono is definatly a one hit wonder. It's a shame that he lives life on that one Race. He has milked that Gold Medal for everything it's worth.
