He looks like a normal kid. Doesn't look like a runner. How can he (physically) run as fast as he did?

he has talent - a lot more than most people.
There is no such thing as looking like a runner. I've never walked into the mall and thought shit that guy looks like a runner.
He doesn't look like he has the strength to run that fast is my point.

What does that even mean? Hicham el guerrouj looks pretty weak.
Are you his surgeon? Have you looked at his lungs?

Salazar ran like a complete DORK, he did alright.
what the OP is trying to say is "how can someone who looks like such a pussy be so tough?"

The op should look at 99% of other good distance runners.

I like how your picture of a "normal" kid is titled "fat kid.jpg."

Actually, Galen still looks like he's about 16, so he's still got some maturation upside.
Blood doping.

I actually do that pretty often
Around 5'11'' and 135 lbs I think. Most "normal" college students who are 5'11'' don't weigh in under 150 I'd bet. Mainly, its all inside though....a big heart helps.
Not getting tired isn't much to look at. Maybe that's why our sport does not attract a certain type of sports fan. A fit, great runner looks the same for 25 laps. For most people it's like watching paint dry.
Bad runners are much more interesting to watch as they die and stagger in the last laps. (I am greatly amused at photos posted of me in a 10 km yesterday. I do not look the same at the end as I did at the start.)
Tom
I used to "look" like a fast runner. I was 5'7" 105lbs and my muscle definition was awesome. I had a super-easy textbook stride and never looked like I was straining (even when I was totally dying).
One of my teammates told me at a cross-country meet that people who were warming up were intimidated by me (he heard some guys talking). This was funny because we had 2 world class Kenyans on our team. These guys were from smaller schools, didn't know who the hell I was, and assumed I was some new superstar because we had other superstars on our team.
Well, I was a 15:45 guy. I would much rather have run 27:33 and not looked like a runner.

funny cuz its true. kids are fat these days.
