Harvard '03 here, but damn, it was good seeing an Ivy League team win that thing. Great job, Columbia! BTW, how did this nucleus of 800m guys come together? Did they come in fast or get some great training/coaching at CU?
One of the guys, Mike Mark, is a freshman - he ran 1:50.8 last year in HS.
Another guy, Erison Hurtalt, is a 46.pt scratch 400 runner. He made NCAAs in the 400 indoors (and I think outdoors last year.) He's run a couple of halves this year in the 1:51 range.
The anchor, Liam Boyett-Pett was a 4:10/1:51 guy in h.s.
The "weak" leg was Jonah Rathbun, who was a 1:53.29 in h.s.
The best "coaching" came from keeping these guys healthy, and moving Hurtalt up to the 800.
