not bad. They would have been 2nd at Drake to UNI's squad that dropped a 7:19
Make that 3rd actually. The Domers were about .2 of a second ahead of them.
I am Cornell track '91 and I must say it was great seeing Columbia win...
Great job, Light Blue!
Damn, the Heps is gonna be *some* meet.
I go to CU, quit running after HS, but I know several guys on the time and I must say GOOOOO BLUE BABY!!!!
Wow, what a shocker. Liam is a hoss.
What happenend to FSU?
I thought they entered a team?
Congrats to the Columbia men and Coach Wood. Those guys raced so well and just kept coming back. It was very cool to see them mix it up and beat the "big boys".
And lets not forget to mention Erison Hurtault. He is a 400m guy who destroyed the field on the third leg He was in 6th or so with 200m to go and handed off five metres in the lead.
Must've been especially sweet for Liam to edge U-M at the line considering he grew up/went to high school in Michigan.
Liam went to hs in tiny Bath, MI (just outside Lansing).
Do you remember this post from indoors-

I saw Ronnie Warhursts right after the meet and that's what he was talking about. I guess Liam was a phenom in high school (1:51 from a tiny school in Michigan) and Ronnie recruited him but couldn't get him to come. He was laughing about it afterwards.
But Michigan ran well Ellerton (1:48.3) brought his A game on the anchor despite having run the 4*mile earlier that day, but had to come from too far back. But Liam ran a perfect race. He had the lead, let them make their move too early and saved it for one final surge for the finish. With 200 to go there were a lot of teams around him and there is no way he's the fastest of the bunch. But they battled it out with 200 to go and he sat there perfectly on the rail conserving his energy for one push for the finish. I just put the video of the race on the homepage.
Pett was always fun to watch at a meet in high school, he had amazing closing speed and it looks like he showed it at Penn. He was also always a very fluid runner in the beginning of a race, just floating through it.
I guess I just had to settle for Drake this year, although Webb dominating with a time like he did was pretty impressive in it's own right.
Harvard '03 here, but damn, it was good seeing an Ivy League team win that thing. Great job, Columbia! BTW, how did this nucleus of 800m guys come together? Did they come in fast or get some great training/coaching at CU?
All of the Columbia guys ran great from a race strategy perspective. Watch that race and pay attention to CU's third leg...ran a masterful race, as did Liam. Sitting back letting others do the work for 500+ meters and then moving when it mattered.
Fun to watch...very fun.

From the splits, it looked to me like Ellerton made up the second and a half he needed in the first quarter, and had great position on Boylan-Pett going into the final turn, but he just didn't have enough left to hold him off. They both ran away from the rest of the field easily on the home stretch. Ellerton is obviously a cut above, but it just made Boylan-Pett's race all the more impressive to me.
nova must be kicking themselves. they had eckman in the stands watching b/c he was sick, and had to exchange him with a 1:54 guy. eckman split 1:47 last year in both the DMR and the 4 x 8.
