No music > music
I agree. If you want a noise though, a steady rain on an empty back country road is pretty nice.
Most of the time I don't use music, but when I do my favorite song to listen to is Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon. It's got a great beat for running.
raggae is always good for recovery runs.
One of my favorite playlists has Minor Threat's "Minor Threat" and Monster Magnet's "Tractor" on it.

2nd that
i prefer running with a group of guys, but when alone i always run with an ipod. why not? i enjoy running, and i enjoy music. I think a lot of true runners feel they will be mistaken as a jogger if they where an ipod...to each his own...
Actually, true runners feel they will miss out on the beauty of the run and in their surroundings if they go masking it with music.

Actually, that is an ignorant overgeneralization. Who are you to say who a "true runner" is?
