Another good week. 12K time trial on Friday night, fastest in 6 years (48:18). 46 for the week in 5 days, rewarded the last few weeks with an extra day off.
My f12 ran her first track meet Thursday, 400 & 800, finished dfl in both but tells me that is ok because she can only improve. And she's heard enough times about how I finished last in every single HS mile & 2 mile I ever ran, true and another story...
My f10 is out putting the shot even now. 21'4" is her magic number.
Never thought I'd have two thinclads, pretty cool.
nyloco,
I will have a team at this years R2R relay,
(Team Benfield Running)we have finished 2nd in the mixed for the past few years. I also ran for "No Walking till the Van Passes" at Hood to Coast years ago. I'm sure Jim Most is still putting the team together. What's the name of your team?
Benfield409,The team is still Jim Yost\'s and still has the same name. I don\'t think any of us plan to do any walking though ;-). The rest of the team is mostly from OH, and I grew up near Evansville (Mt. Vernon), so the race is a good excuse for a family visit. I see your team is based in Evansville - we\'ll definitely have to touch base. I\'ll be wearing the red Loco singlet, and if I look puzzled, if can only mean that I am wondering why I volunteered to run the infamous 22nd leg. Good luck!Scott

While reading National Masters News cover to cover in the bathroom per usual I happened to see that "TY" turned 45 this week. Happy Birthday to the now significantly older man! I look forward to seeing what kind of numbers are forthcoming.
Me, base training mode for now. The body is healthy.
Tuesday 12x150 medium.
Saturday 3200 steady. Felt good.
Sunday long 8 miles, fast for me (8 minute pace). Felt good.
It appears I'm finally recovered from indoor nationals.
I must have pressed the Enter key by error! What I meant to say was:
Glad to hear that you've recovered from your "Reggie Fatigue." Mine is thankfully gone too. Can't wait to read the coverage of the meet in the NMN. Looking forward to great things this spring and summer, all the best to you and your friends.
Hi all, glad to here most of you have had good weeks and are enjoying the start of spring.
This was a race week for me. A half marathon in Charlotte on a rolling course. The first half was gently rolling with the second half more significant rollers with 3 good size hills. I settled into 9th place by 3 miles when the occompanying 10k split off and kept a fairly stable effort level the whole way. The mile splits varied by the terrain but it was frustrating working a good hill and then by the time I got the pace down again we hit another hill. Ended up finishing in 9th (passed one and was passed once) in 1:21:16 for a second career PR (my 3rd so far in 2007).
Ended up with 70 miles for the week.
Starting back into doubles next week. That should boost my mileage some over the summer and we will see what we can do in another half marathon in September.
Good afternoon,
Just got back from Vancouver, Canada where I celebrated my birthday week with a 10k. Hoping to go under 32:00, like the workouts have suggested, but only managed a 32:20. Roomed with Keefer (42) who ran 32:40. Beautiful city on a gorgeous day. Now to start working on turnover some.
About 65 miles this week with one good session of mile repeats on Tues (4 @ 4:55). Just need to start racing again to shake out the cobwebs.
Everyone is sounding extremely fit! Good reads.
Weird being closer to 50 now instead of 40!
Stay healthy!
tony
Hey folks,
this was a race week for me too, with a small local 5k to test fitness, now that I've got a solid month of training behind me after getting my quads fixed. It turned out better than I expected (16:21 - 7 s slower than the same route last year in slightly worse conditions). Feels good to think maybe I'm back to about the same form as this time last year. Next races are another 5k in two weeks, then a road 10k or track 10,000 the week after that.
Have a great week, everyone!
Hello all. Sounds like most people are running well as we head into the spring racing season.
Just finished a 72 mile week, my third in the 70's out of the last four. I've been including a couple of solid workouts and a long run each week, so if I'm still a slow slug in the spring, it won't be for lack of effort.
Sat. AM: 4 easy before work
PM: 9 track session, with 5K AT run; 3 X 1000/200
@ 8K goal pace; and 4 X 150/150 fast (relatively)
Today (Sun.): 11 mile run on soggy trails in a windy downpour. Had planned on 13-14, but cut it short due to
tired legs and tough conditions.
My running will be hit or miss for the next week and a half as I tour Italy. Pete and others, thanks for your advice on that subject on another thread.
Hey Pete, do you think they will link the plots on 24?
I'll bet it turns out that the Chinese were backing Fayed the whole time (connected by Jacks's dad?). Any other 24 aficianados on here?
Tony,
Wait until you turn 50. Ugh. I try to forget it everyday. Oh well, nothing to do about it except just keep going for it.

Damned if I know. Damn show has the most ridiculous "plot" of any show on TV - maybe ever - but I can't miss a week. It's a guilty pleasure. :-)
Hey - have a great time in Italy.
managed my wimpy 7 mile runs most of the last 10 days, but took the weekend off from running. We had 5 track meets in ten days and standing around in the cold interspersed with frantic sprints across the infield to cheer on my kids left me hurting big time! They really were troopers with that inhumane schedule and showed concern when I took an extra long time going up and down the school bus steps, but we survived the insanity and plan on getting back to normal this week (only one meet , thank the gods!) I'm not even going to try to do any fast running until we get temperatures in the 60's! I read something about gin soaked raisins to cure arthritic aches and pains. definately looks like something to try at this point!
Happy Birthday, Tony and welcome to the new AG. I wish I could say it is an easier one, but you already know that it really isn't. ;-)
I had another solid week (that makes 4!!) and am feeling stronger and fitter. I ran my favorite LT threshold workout on Wednesday with a male friend who made it seem more bearable than usual. He managed to master the fine art of being helpful, but not condescending. The bonus for him is that for almost a half hour, I was pretty damn quiet. ;-)
After spending Thursday and Saturday at meets in the cold rain like runamook, I finished the week with a strong 16 miler on trails. After being reminded last week of just how slowly I've been running the loop, I ran it about 8 minutes faster -- still more than 15 minutes slower than my best time on the loop, but definitely better, especially since I ran it solo.
Now if I can keep this up for 6 more months or so. ;-)
runamook, does anyone complain when you run across the infield to cheer? I've been extremely reluctant to go into the infield after being bitched out by a CG adult a couple years ago at a pretty casual St. Paul meet. We were at PC this weekend and they frequently announce that no coaches are allowed in the infield. It makes it hard to coach/spectate the 800 and 200, but I've been obedient, so I wondered. Sounds like you guys had a good meet!
Top Cat,No one else bit, but I'll offer my two cents. I don't think there is an inherent problem with doing long training runs in performance trainers, but my personal preference is to wear something with a little more cushioning. I do like my performance trainers for my tempo runs and interval workouts, and I'll sometimes even wear my racing flats for the latter. I don't think you'll have an abrupt injury if you choose the wrong shoes, as long as you have broken them in first. I'm a big proponent of rotating shoes, and I even rotate two pairs of work shoes. Have a good week.I wear my racing flats (Nike Streak XC) for over 90% of my mileage, which includes my longer runs. I'll only wear trainers these days if there's wet snow or deep puddles since they have more substance than the flats, or if I feel any complaining from my achilles telling me the heels need to be raised for a run or two.
Thank you. I'm a believer in rotation also. I'm just on a quest to find the perfect shoe as probably most are and when I run in performance trainers they feel better. Right now I have 7 different kinds of trainers and performance trainers I am experimenting with. Well time to see if I can get the Beantown Flood Classic on the internet.
It looks like OLN will be carrying it from 9:30-12:30, so I'm hoping to catch the last part of the race while I run on the treadmill at the gym. There is quite a snowstorm developing here in upstate NY, so running outside is not an option (for me).
BTW, I saw that there were some fast times in the Master's 800m at the Mt. Sac relays:
1 Carnegie, Joe Genesis Sub2 1:58.33
2 Hegelbach, Peter Fleet Feet Racing 2:00.32
3 Kastor, Vaughn Unattached 2:02.53
4 Potter, Christopher Nike Central Park 2:02.82
5 Paulk, Kevin Bowerman TC 2:03.16
6 Van Cleve, Rob Fibo Track Club 2:04.68
7 Alexander, Mark Sea Front Run 2:05.47
8 Shaheed, Nolan So Cal Fleet Feet 2:07.24
9 Garabaldi, Ralph Unattached 2:08.96
Sounds like you'll be doing your last prep on the treadmill NYloco. I spent yesterday there and probably today, not because of snow, but because of extreme wind and chill factor. Today, the wind is just screaming.
We were looking at our RTR books last night and looking at your last leg (#22). I remember how you approached running leg 6 so enthusiastically a few weeks ago - and I thought, "well, that is great - someone with no fear for leg 6". Looking forward to it all.
16x
yes, 1/2 the team is from Ohio.
Hey muddy, most of our meets are pretty casual, but things like xo, districts , moc , state are strictly sidelines. Biggest deal is getting down at the starts (hence my aching knees) . So many of my kids feel like they have to be right there for their teamates too (we are a very tight knit group) so I am always managing them. As for me, I don't think obedient and demure would ever be used to describe me, although I have been called loud and obnoxious! I'll respect the rules, AND will do my best to be there for my kids.Good for you for keeping the mileage up!
