I haven't seen an original PacMan for years. Way back when, I learned the patterns for all the screens and would get past all the fruit to the keys -- everytime. One quarter would last a long long time. All emulators I've seen since those original arcade games requre different patterns.

Done that a ton my brother. I'm 40. Grew up going to ardades to play great stuff before anything other than Ataris were available for home use.
Dig Dug
PacMan
Galaxian
Galaga
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Elevator Action
Xevious
Battlezone
Those and a ton more. Man I spent so much money on those things. If only I knew then what I know now about the power of compound interest. Oh well.
Willy, those were great games, but I loved Missile Command and Space Invaders-original and deluxe. I have also found that the emulators can be slightly different, usually making them easier.
I always sucked at Pac Man.
Damn Centipede drove me up the wall.
I was an ace at Ms. Pacman. I could regularly score well over 100,000 and go thru 6-7 different screens. I even won a Ms. Pacman tournament once.
Another of my favorite games was Qix. I'd love to get my hands on one of those machines.
I'm currently shopping for some pinball machines to put in my garage, too. Gotta love that silver ball.

FORTY? You're just a pup!
Dig dug was pretty good, although in general I was crappy at those games; however, I was REALLY good at pinball... now THERE'S a game that takes skill!

There were only 4 different screens in the entire game.
55 keys (give or take a few) 1,069,000. Cappucino's, Newton Center, MA 1982.
now thats just sick.
how long did that take?
I'm going to guess an hour and a half. My previous best was 978,000.
Not on this occasion, but once I patiently waited for my turn while a group of frat boys (probably BC) played. When it was my turn I popped the quarters in the machine and the guy holding the table angrily barked, "Don't start yet, I've got to go to the bathroom!" I said, "Don't worry about it. Take the Sunday paper with you, it's going to be a long time before it's your turn."
The guy gave me a nasty stare and left, his friends said, "Do you know who that is?" Staring down at the screen ...
1. PacmanKing
2. PacmanKing
3. PacmanKing
4. PacmanKing
5. PacmanKing
... that displayed the top scores I said, "Let me take a guess, your friend must be PacmanKing?"
Okay, I'll bite... did you make the leaderboard?
Geez!
The farthest I ever made it to was the 5th key...and I was proud of that!
55 has got to be some sort of a record.

At the time, I believe the "record" was 1.1 million. I remember it being reported in Rolling Stone, who knows exactly when?
There are 256 levels, in 1999 some guy finally got a perfect game, getting every fruit and eating every ghost after munching a power pill. Goes to show you what you can accomplish if you spend your entire adult life in the basement.
http://www.oxfordamericanmag.com/content.cfm?ArticleID=58After the 13th key, your puck (the original game was called Puck-man, changed because they figured vandals would change the P to an F) slows way down and you cannot eat the ghosts for points. At that point you'd better be the Zen Pac-master. There are no patterns you can drop back on. You must feel your Kung Fu, grasshopper.
First played the game at World Cross in Madrid 1981. Thom Hunt named the game "Eat Me," as in "You wanna go spend some potatoes on Eat Me?" At the start of the race the US team got together in a huddle and "sang" the Pacman theme song.
Malmo, was the bathroom-breaker PacmanKing, and how did it play out? Tks.

Don't recall the exact details, but I believe PacmanKing's scores were in the 85,000 to 150,000 range -- typical for your home-turf barroom champions.
