Where you staying?
The training camp is at La Santa on the North of the Island of which I have no knowledge except that it's got a propper track.
I've always stayed in Puerto Del Carmen, and Playa Blanca. Loads of dirt roads from PDC north of the Bypass, and into the hills (in the direction of Tias). A bit of a building site at times but common sense will see you alright. If you head for the hospital on the bypass and then north from there you'll be in the right area.
Down at Playa Blanca you can run towards Papagayo beach which is nice - but the dirt road again can be quite busy with tourists. Also take a wrong (or maybe right?) turning and you'll end up on the nudist beach.
If you want a map I find ISBN 0749537868 does the trick. Just search the number on amazon.
hey thanks so much.
i'll be in costa teguise on the eastern shore. know anything about the area?
also, do you know if the big natl park is open for running? i'm not really sure how accessible everything is (i won't have a car) and whether or not i can run everywhere. i should probably check how big the island is...
thanks again!
Costa teg is pretty small, and looking at the map there is a marked footpath along the coast, and another one up into the hills, or to the town of Teguise - about 4 miles away.
The island is big enough you won't be able to run everywhere - maybe 30 miles end to end.
I would forget going to La Santa to get onto the track - it's miles away and theres no garauntee you'll even be able to get onto the track.
The city of Arrecife might well have a council track (i never found it) and buses are from Costa Teg to Arrecife (and on to PDC) several times an hour.
Don't you have a driving license or aren't u 25? If you fancy a car
is cheap as chips, and their policy appears to be as long as you don't write it off a few scratches are expected.....
The weather is pretty good for running - but get out in the morning or just before sunset as the middle of the day can be hot.
fantastic, thanks again!!
