"*A Look at the IT Requirements of the Boston Marathon No way do the computer requirements for the race really cost half a million."
It's amazing how ignorant Wejo is about computers and web hosting. $0.5M is probably on the cheap side for the BAA's web site, considering the cost of hardware ($220K of which was donated), bandwidth, software, programming, and administration. The BAA web site gets well over a million hits (not visits) per hour on race day. Add in the automated runner update e-mails, then you have a farm of servers working pretty darn hard and efficient.
No Wejo, its not a Mac book in your mom's basement running a message board programmed by a sixth grader like your Lets Run web site. Now there's a web site that don't cost a half million dollars.
