Y2k was supposed to cause the end of the world and that didn't happen.
Now global warming is going to end the world by 2020 as we know it today.
When this doesn't happen, any guesses as the next "event" that will cause the end of the world?

the430miler will say something smart.
The end of the world will always be just around the corner for some doom-and-gloomers. It seems like global warming has acquired a religious aspect. Think of rapture for environmentalists.
Smart people knew that Y2K wasn't going to be a big deal. Now ALL the smart people are saying that we need to deal with global warming.
Unless you have a rational reason to believe that global warming is not real (and you don't), it would serve you well to look past your own conservative nose once in a while. It's not all about you.
I'm not saying Global Warming shouldn't be a concern, but I think everyone alive now will be dead long before it really causes any serious problems to humans. Yeah, some polar bears might die, the tide might creep a bit higher on our beaches, but for the most part, life will go on as always.

I believe that global warming is real. I do not believe that humans have much impact on it and I do not believe that a 2 degree rise in global temperature will have much effect on the world. If I want to experience a 2 degree rise in avg temps, I just have to drive a couple hundred miles south.
The avg temps didn't even rise in the U.S. last year even though we are the most industrialized country in the world. I guess we are just better at importing our greenhouse gasses to other parts of the world. If we could figure out a way to charge the other countries for these greenhouse gasses, we could help offset our trade deficit.
Conservative? I don't even buy into that conservative/liberal garbage. I make up my own mind about subjects. I couldn't even tell you the difference between a liberal and conservative. That stuff is meaningless to me.

Some of the so called experts said global warming would be a major factor in our lives 10 years ago !
Thats right, around 15 years ago when the so called awareness of this phenomenon was first rising, they predicted whole sea side towns would be under water by now.
To my knowledge this has not happened anywhere yet.
In my country we had record cold temperatures last winter, funny thing that no one was talking about global warming then.
And our summers are no hotter than they were when I was a kid 40 years ago.
Something that has not even been discorvered yet will reek true havoc on this planet; and it wont be at the stroke of midnight on new years eve either.

The world is ending for someone somewhere every single day...
Science wasn't your strong point, was it?
1. These are averages. Models show it's far more dramatic at the poles, where, unfortunately, we store all our ice. Do you have an explanation for massive loss of ice sheets already?
2. Again, averages are a challenge for you. If global averages went up but in the US they were relatively flat, that means somewhere else it went up MORE than average.
3. Congrats on not understanding the basic difference between the two major political philosophies in our country. I can tell you, bragging about your ignorance puts you in the conservative side, along with our esteemed president, who bragged in the 2000 campaign about how he doesn't read.
Actually that is not really true. I have been working as a computer programmer since before Y2k and there were a lot of "smart people" that knew Y2k was a big deal. Not world ending but there was a lot of money spent to make sure it didn't cause a lot of problems. I know my company paid people $3000 to work over New Years eve going into the year 2000 just in case things started to go wrong. It wasn't a big deal because smart people knew ahead of time it would be a big deal.

I'm glad someone corrected the Y2K statement. A lot of people worked very hard in the few years BEFORE Y2K to make sure it wasn't a problem. After all the hard work and money was spent correcting the problem a lot of people were saying, 'see it was no big deal'. These people were clueless.
