I just ran a 59.5 for the 400m in winds of 25MPH. What would this convert to if there were no winds? 57? 56? Or something else?
Just wondering, because I've never raced in conditions this windy before.

I dunno, do you have flaps?
A 58.1 what race do you run 400m or 800m.

My main event is the 800.
42.54859..wind can be a killer

No, but I weigh less than 115 lbs, so the wind might have slowed me down a bit.
I call BS on that time - way too fast. I'd give him 42.45127 at best.
well
isn't one half with the wind, and the other against?
wouldn't that even it out, and still make it 59.5?
theoretically anyway
no way to know. go out and run another. i think 57 is reasonable.
Not really. They've done physiological studies that show that wind (and hills) cause much more strain going against them then they make up for when you go with them. So it is definitely slower than he is capable of. It is really impossible to give a really good estimate, but I would guess it probably cost you a second or two. 57-58, somewhere in there.
estimations please wrote:

I was a physicas major in school. This is easy.
During the first 200, while facing 25 MPH headwinds you would run roughly a 35 second 200. This would convert to a 30 second 200 without wind. During the the last 200, with the wind at your back, you would run a 24.50 sec. 200. Subtracting the advantage of a 25 MPH wind this would equate to a 29.50 second 200. So...just add them up and you will have your answer.

42.54859 is slower that 42.45127 last time I looked.

Not just that....
Forget the bends and just think of the two straights, and imagine one had a headwind and the other the identical tailwind. If the headwind made you slow down by 0.5 m/s, and the tail wind sped you up by 0.5 m/s you would still be slower throughout.
E.g. - for ease of maths assume a spriting speed of 10 m/s over 200m. No wind - race time (on this rather strange up and back track)
= 200m / 10m/s = 20s.
Now with the wind consideration/
race time =
100m / 10.5m/s (tailwind) = 9.52s +
100m / 9.5m/s (headwind) = 10.53s = 20.05s.
So anyone who comes out with a comment like "hills or wind cancel themselves out on a loop course" is wrong.
