Yes, Drew Ryun,
A bit too close to the situation.

People that are the most critical are usually those that didn't do nothing when they were running themselves. People are taking shots at Hall and Coach Ray - because they are and have been good at what they do. Nobody takes shots at people that didn't do anything. I saw Ryan when he started training with Irv and when he stopped - he ran good during both times and ran bad during both times. Just like anybody that has run fast - sometimes you on top of your game and sometimes you're not.
KevinM-
What is up these days? Yeah, I'm thinking it's time for some Trivial Pursuit. Ned and I need another track dork to go over all the minutia of times and races from the 1970's and 80's.:)
And ThisHelps-what the heck is "too close to the situation" suppossed to mean?
Nate, bottom line is that Hall would have gone nowhere near what he did in highschool without Irv Ray.
drewr and kevinm...hope all is well and I think I could handle the trivia game...
Hey Drew, you know I'd be up for some track trivia too. What event do you want to start with....the women's hammer throw? When are you next visiting the sunflower state?
Did you get my e-mail about the book for Willis? Mark
Drew- take it easy little man. Don't let these little fellows bother you. I don't want to have to throw some viking down on them.
Hey Super Swede did you run for the Bears back in the day down in Bass Pro land?
Swede-
Man, when are you coming to see us? Chump.:)
Mark-what email about a book? I must have missed it. Try me at
Drew
Mark- are you a Jayhawker? Must be to associate with such seedy company. Ryun- I may be out that way on some interviews in November/December. Need to see that new house.
"No Caps", do I know you? I forgot to ask you last Friday where you learned Swedish...Mark, where would you get an idea like that? Unless you're name is actually David, who incidentally, I should be 1 and 1 in my record against...
It looks like it's going to be quite awhile before I get East, Drew. The trip to Africa will take a bit to get over. Next trip...Athens...
yeah, you know me. i met you when you came to arkansas to train with falcon. you guys hammered me on a 10 miler. i learned swedish from a couple teammates when i transferred to utep.
Are you still there?
if you mean online- yes. if you mean in el paso- no way. i'm training in new mexico now. i want a shot at qualifying for the trials thon.
You've got me curious now. Did you ever run for Asics? I think I might know who you are. Of course, I'll let you remain anonymous. Got to go. Talk another time.
Super Swede,
No I'm not a Jayhawker, just a native Kansan. I've been around KS/MO running for about 15 years so I just know folks. I know Coach Clark and his son Matt is a friend of mine. I remember when Joe Falcon was the man in these parts! I run a bit with Wegenka when our schedules match since I coach just down the road in Bolivar at SBU, so it's close. Do you remember DeWayne Miner? He's a good friend of mine too. What's your e-mail? Mark Misch
Talk about memories. That was quite a bit ago. Did Dewayne end up marrying that young woman?
Nate,
DeWayne now lives in Birmingham, AL and got married about 2 years ago. He is training hard again and has done well in road races but is stepping it up a notch for one last go at the track trials next spring. He is training a lot with Scott Strand. He's done pretty well overall. I've just been at SBU 3 1/2 years rebuilding the program from scratch, we just have xc and distance for track due to limited resources, budgets, scholarships, etc. but have had 10 different All-MIAA distance kids (800-10,000m) in track and xc the last three seasons. We had a freshman T. Jay Sanderson run 3:52 for 1500m this spring and knocked DeWayne off the books. The same kid won the 800m down at SMSU and the KU Relays 1500m and was runner-up to Leif Kennedy (1:49) at MIAA's. DeWayne still comes back to visit and run in our home xc meet and his little brother Tom runs here for us too. I talk to him frequently, I'll tell him you said hey.
Have you guys ever heard of instant messenger - this is a messge board for running. :) Drew - I totally agree with your reply to me - I merely pointed out that he had his up and downs just like all other runners. I was there when he started with Irv. He was a 4:22 miler. He improved a lot and 95% improve with Coach Ray's training - because it makes sense. The other 5% were weak or got injured.
When I replied to the posted message and adressed it to Nate, I was referring to Super Swede, not the Nate arguing with Drew about Irv Ray. Just wanted to clarify that.
Nate-I figured you did, just wanted to clarify. I am pulling for Ryan. He has got so much potential, much of it still untapped, and he is a great kid to top it off. It seems like he could breakthrough again at any moment.
