No offense taken Top Cat. I have been laying low for about a year and hopefully this spring will come back from the dead again.
go Orange (& Florida tonight!)

During your senior yr of HS,
How much did you weigh? 6'2" 157 lbs (1978)
What was your mile PR? 4:16.1
How much do you weigh now? 168
How fast do you think you can run the mile now? Maybe a little under 5:00, though I went 4:37 when I was 39

% body fat went from about 8% to about 3-5%. Two mile is slower, 400 is faster.
sorry to break it to you but you have no idea what you body fat really was in HS (they didn't really have the best equipment to measure that 25 years ago), and your body fat now is nowhere near 3%. Sorry to be the one to break to you.
HS: 95 lb, mile 5:13 (lifetime best a year later, 100lbs, 4:58)
last summer , 48, 105 ran a 6:10 just goofing around at an all comers. I plan on running under 6 this summer if my achilles let me.
It's a helluva lot closer to 3% than yours.Sorry to be the one to break that to you.

I think I have to call bullcrap on all these sub-5 milers at age 40.
lookit up:
a lot of peeps here (& on the masters weekly thread) are on that list
During your senior yr of HS,
How much did you weigh? 138-140 lbs (5.5% body fat)6'1"
What was your mile PR? 4:19 (converted 4:00.7 1500)
How much do you weigh now? 146 lbs 6'2"
How fast do you think you can run the mile now? 4:45
(slower if I place a cushioning insole in my spikes due to shock absorbion)
Tony Young is an outlier! Who gets faster after 40 than in High school? Way to go Tony! I'm going to gain 30 pounds!
HS - 155-160, around 4:40
Now 46 - 180-185, 5:17 a few months ago (first indoor mile race ever), without much specific training.

Hahahaha! Are we THAT good? (Or, are we THAT old?)
Got to keep up with all the 14:30 5K runners that are the average for Letsrun posters in general.

Why would it surprise people that most of the masters who post on letsrun can run under 5 minutes for a mile?
The equivelant for the 5k is around 17:15. 35 masters ran faster than that last week at carlsbad.
Er....what IS that, exactly? Some 3000m times, no doubt.

Remember the thread "What percentage of guys can break 5 minutes for the mile if properly trained?"
These are some of those properly trained guys!
The fastest guy posting so far is on USATF.org; he's the US record holder, Tony Young, sub 4:10 as a master. Some of the masters guys like Dennis Simonitis and Pete McGill for example can do three in a row sub 5's. Actually Denis can do 6.
I have to agree with Peeps and that other guy, I call BS or over active imaginations on most of these posts. I believe about 5 of the posts reflect real times. The rest are in your minds.
One, because I'm jealous; I'm 15 lbs overweight and on a good day can manage 5:20.
Two, being able to only manage a 5:20 today, I know how hard it is to run faster. I've seen a few masters miles and very very few guys can get under 5 and if they do, it's just barely - not 4:30 or 4:40.
I especially call BS on the dude that is >200 lbs (and over 40) and can run sub5.
To you guys that actually do run sub5, kudos and keep up the good work.
145/4:22
155/? maybe 4:50
unless you work on it, leg speed is the first thing to go...

1500m =/= mile
HS: 145, 4:35
Now (49): 165, 5:02
We always did 1500m. I would hope that showing 1500m times, and STATING that it is 1500m, doesn't make me a Troll, even at letsrun. Discuss using at least two sides of the paper.
