Everett and Jones is very good.
Once I was driving thru TX and saw a billboard for a BBQ joint. The slogan was, "Don't need no teef to eat our beef!"
Hilarious.
Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, AL
I like the BBQ Shop - on Madison Ave in Midtown area. But the best two places in Memphis are Huey's burgers and Gus's Fried chicken! I miss those places.

Rendevous is all hype and no substance. I thought it was terrible. There wasn't much meat on the ribs and all you could taste was the powder they toss on at the end.
If you want good Memphis BBQ, stop by Central BBQ. Best I've had.

For Memphis, I'd recommend Rendevous. Other than there, go to any local joint with a lot of smoke. The best ones usually have a diverse crowd of blue collar workers, business types, city employees, etc.
I just visited the Salt Lick outside Austin for the first time a couple months ago and it was spectacular.
The only other one that I've been to that compares is Hickory Park in Ames, Iowa. Any of your college kids who come thru Ames for a meet, be sure to stop in! Everything on the menu is good and they have a gigantic sundae menu (ala the old time ice cream parlors) Good Stuff.
Ribs: Archibald's, Tuscaloosa, AL
Brisket: Salt F***ING Lick BBQ in Austin, TX
I said it once and I'll say it again, Dixie's in Johnson City, Tennessee is A LOT better than the Salt Lick in TX. No contest.

Good word, walter. Rendevous is shite. Famous? Yes. Good food? Sometimes, but not often. Rendevous is a place where you can get the best BBQ you have ever had in your life, but more than likely it will be somewhere between crap I wouldn't feed my dog and edible. If you want to get good food there, you will have to go ten times, and you might get lucky. The service SUCKS, too.
In Memphis, the BBQ Shop and Central BBQ are phenomenal. Every time you go in, the food is excellent. Corky's is also worth a mention. While not incredible, it is always good. Consistency is sometimes key.
