I as wondering.
I as wondering.
14:40 5k is nothing special....the 8:45 steeple on the other hand is competitive on the college level. Most colleges, d1, d2 and naia have websites and ways to contact the school and fill out a questionaire for the track coach. "google" the schools you are interested in.
I was wondering about DI schools.
maybe a half scholalship at my njcaa school.
foreigners can't take advantage of all the federal and state financial aid. and athletic aid only goes so far.
Call John Mcdonnell, the head coach at Arkansas, Fayetville. He's always in the market for another, ready-made foreigner who can come in and run at a national level.
If you have access to e-mail, you should find a D1 college's athletic website and look up the distance coach's email address. Send them a message regarding your question.
Look into several colleges; some coaches choose not to reward foreign athletes. Good luck

-you mean like brian baker, joe falcon, reuben reina, and dan lincoln? a little bitter, eh?
now, name the 30 Irishmen, Kenyans, Englishmen, South Africans, etc, that built the core of the program and took away scholarships from good American kids.
30? how about 100 or more over the last 30 years. (that being said, he is a good distance coach).
If the greater part of American high school talent weren't lazy pieces of crap, you'd have a point.
I have to say - if this is a serious inquiry - 14:40 and 8:45 (steeple) would get you a full athletic scholarship at practically any D1 program in the country, regardless of nationality, so long as the athlete meets eligibility requirements.
a 14:40 5k? no way....an 8:45 steeple? yes, everywhere.
an 8:45 steeple guy assuming he's not 30 years old.. could grab you a full at most places and at a top 25 ncaa school prob 60-75%
How many high school 14:45 runners are there in the US right now. Hall, Tebo, Jager, and perhaps a dozen more at best. Almost any school, save a few that dont have the money or already have the talent, would give a 14:45 5k runner(legit) a full ride scholorship without a doubt.
An 8:45 steeple would win most conferences and most years score at NCAA's.
Final analysis
14:45 5k- full to most d1 schools, 50-75% at top programs
8:45 steeple- full to any d1 school willing to take on a Kenyan that has the scholorship available and uses it on distance runners.
American kids don't run the 5k. They would have a 2 mile or 3200m time. But, a high schoool kid who was 17 or 18 and did run a 14:40 in a meet somewhere, would no doubt be a 9 minute 2 miler too, most likely; much more impressive than a 21 year old foreigner with a 14:40 5k.
Good times and would get a full ride at the average college programs. If they wanted to go to a competitive distance school like wisco, colorado, oregon, etc they will probably get much less.

A better way to determine what a \"competitive\" distance school is would be to review the team results of the past few years XC Nat’s (as compared to the programs that are still living in the \"glory days\").
Team = \'03 + \'04 + \'05 + \'06: average finish : trophies (03-06)
Wis = 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 : 1.75 : 4
Col = 6 + 1 + 5 + 1 : 3.25 : 2
Ark = 5 + 3 + 2 + 6 : 4 : 2
Stan= 1 + 6 + 6 + 4 : 4.25 : 2
Iona= 4 + 7 + 4 + 3 : 4.75 : 3
Of the 16 trophies (top four teams each year) that were up for grabs, the above schools have claimed them all with the following exception.
NAU 3rd \'03
Btlr 4th \'04
ND 3rd \'05
A 14:40/8:45 stpl incoming freshman would get a full at any of the above schools (no f-ing doubt).
The whole American vs Foreigner is separate story.
Anyone be following the chasingkimbia.com ?
For the longest time I thought they (Africans) were alien invaders.
I now believe their blood is red and their urine is yellow.
