The Milton HS T&F Distance Inter-squad relay and Burrito Mile is now history and we have a new WR and have broken the 7 minute barrier!!
Christian Scholz, a junior, consumed his Moe's burrito (Joey Bag) weight 1.1 lbs in an amazing 1:50 and then cranked out a 5:08.6 mile for a new WR of 6:58.6. The weather was windy, low 80's and the pollen count above 5000!!! Junior Max Spartz began eating a full 7 seconds before Christian as the inter-squad relay of 400m legs (23 legs) finished as us coaches ran with the burrito on the final relay leg before delivering the burritos to the feed-zone and the waiting burrathletes. Max ate in an incredible 1:48 and took off but was eventually passed by Christian during the 3rd lap of the mile and ran a 5:33.5 for a final time of 7:21.5, breaking the old WR by about 10 seconds.
The relay was an even split of both boy's and girl's on the distance squad of the Milton HS track team, and were picked by Christian and Max who also determined the order. Christian's team (The Slackers) led until the 21st 400m leg when Max's team (Sick-Nasty) passed them. On the 23rd leg, Coach Carr had about a 16 second lead on Coach Warner but a strong 59-second leg brought The Slackers to within 7 seconds as the burritos were passed to the burrathletes, and the rest they say are history.
