It seems there is a lot of current "conventional wisdom" in American baseball, regarding how much throwing is good for a guy's arm, and it may not be the right way to go. I couldn't help but think about this guy being the pitching equivalent of a high-mileage runner who is getting great results because he's built up his arm and body to withstand the rigors of a long baseball season.
Meanwhile there are the majority of other pitchers who don't throw a lot on off days or on days when they start a game, and it is these guys who are not pitching with the same results and even getting injured more because of the lack of "base" they have under them. In discussing this with my dad, we started talking about baseball back in the day, when there were 3-4 guys in the rotation, and those guys did complete games all the time, and seemed to be injured less.
Did you draw a lot of the same parallels to our training I did?
