Probably should add something positive to this thread about the state of affairs of Ohio men's distance running.
Div I teams:
There are a few solid teams in the state that have the potential to make the NCAA meet each year - Miami and OSU.
Other solid teams that will probably never make NCAA but be competitive in their conference are Kent, Dayton (Ohio was moving back into that direction) and possibly Cinci.
Teams that will probably not be much better than mid level conference are Akron and BGSU.
Div II/NAIA teams:
Malone probably leads the pack due to the level of talent they recruit in but Cedarville has outperformed (made better time improvements) them from All-Ohio to nationals the past two years. Ashland has always been a solid program without much recruiting and missed nationals by 14 points this year in what probably is the deepest non-division I regional in college cross country.
Shawnee has been doing quite well over the past few years from where they are coming from. Solid improvements and solid coaching.
Tiffin has made solid improvements over what they used to be but still have a long way to go to get to the level of the top 3. Findlay guys distance program is almost non-existant.
Walsh is probably somewhere behind Tiffin and infront of Findlay.
Div III:
Mount, ONU, Heidleberg are all solid programs. Mount has always been strong and ONU and H have all seemed to come on strong lately. The smaller ohio schools are starting to get some very good talent which are leading them to making a mark on the national level in div III. Mount folded at XC nats and ONU I don't believe ran much better.
Another school that is competitive is Otterbein and Ohio Weslyan will become much more competitive in the next few years due to their new assistant.
Several quality options in Ohio. It depends on what you are looking for. If you go Div I you have a small chance of making nationals. If you go NAIA you are very likely to make nationals, as it is very easy to do so if you are half way decent. If you go Div II you have about as good of a chance as if you were in Div I. Div III you have a better chance than Div I or II but not as good as NAIA.
Track would take too long to breakdown but I would take a quick look at indoor results at the end of the indoor season and if you are still looking, check out how the teams did at the end of the outdoor season. Many schools will waste themselves indoors and faulter outdoors.
