Here is a thought that would get the guys that run US cross and make the team to go to Worlds. If you don't go to the Worlds you give up the prize money you won at US Cross. They could still get their boneses from the shoe contracts but nothing from USATF or the organizers. I think we are all tired of seeing the 2nd tier guys at the World Champs. I want to see what our "A" squad could do against the other big teams in the world.

How does taking away the top athletes' prize money help the World team? All it does is assure you that the top guys won't show up to Nats. Then you screw yourself twice by still having the 2nd tier guys on the World team PLUS a crappy US championship meet that doesn't include anybody you want to see.
in some ways it is actually good that not all of the A-guys go, just like you said, it gives the developing people elite experience. so is it really that bad? i'd say the guys who wouldn't have gone aren't saying so. if we have the same guys going year after year, it isn't good for development in the long run.

I don't think that World XC is a great place to cut your teeth for elite experiance. There are tons of good xc races in Europe where they could go and make a difference. Why go to Worlds and be out the back at 3k, that is not developing anything. There are some really good 10k guys(28:10 or so) that are barley in the top 50 now I don't think any of the guys going have ran that fast yet. So what good is it to send a team of guys that are going for expeiance? I want you to name the last 2nd tier guy that went to Worlds and has made it big because of the experiance they got.
