I'm not talkin' about Craig Virgin or Deena Kastor, so don't even go there. Any student of the sport knows who I'm talking about. Although, I will admit I'm deeply disappointed in Ritz. The only guy with a medal in the past whatever years is not going to Kenya. The US needs to step up. Bekele don't care that the World XC is in Kenya or nowhere.

I'm sure this will fall on deaf ears - always confusing to use that phrase when writing - but everyone needs to cease the codependent "everyone owes us something" bs. Ritz, Goucher, Torres et al owe you and I nothing. USATF did not have anything to do with their development as national stars. USATF jumped in with some help once they were already on top. They owe USATF nothing. This is their job and they are woking the hours they choose for the maximum long term payoff. The people posting on this board did not have anything to do with these athletes' success and so therefore have no reason to criticize their professional decisions any more than I would have a right to criticize the OP's decision to stop serving fries at Burger King and push carts at Wal Mart instead. Sure I liked his fries better than his replacement's, but I didn't pay him so I recognize his right to get a little extra exercise bringing in the carts. I am disappointed we are not fielding our top team at World XC and I may even think that the XC meet is better for their development than the road. All that means is the next time I coach a runner in this position - should that ever happen - I will advise them to choose differently than these athletes did.

I have a couple friends who have:

1) Never gone to college and

2) Been in prison

What distinguishes them is:

1) Never applied to college and

2)They broke the law (committed felonies)

Notice how skin color is not a factor that either:

1) Sends a person to college or

2) Sends a person to prison

That sick RACIST nation also has had two straight black Secretaries of State (you know, the person who represents the U.S. to the world), two black coaches in the super bowl, a black Senator who's a serious contender for the Democratic nomination for president, and on and on.

Institutional racism is almost eradicated in the U.S. It still exists, but it's not nearly the problem it was in 1950 before Brown v. The Board of Education.

If a black man works hard in school and keeps his nose clean, he has a good chance of doing very well for himself in America. If he chooses instead to hang out with gang bangers, knock up his teenage girlfriend, and blame his plight on whitey, well then I guess he shouldn't be surprised if he winds up in prison while his kid grows up without a father.

And who exactly appointed you the great decider of who's black and who's not? Rice is as black as any African American. And she also happens to be about 100 times smarter than idiots like you.

first of all every year many of our national championship winners skip the worlds, even when the worlds is held in white european countries.

Mombasa is not that easy to get to and there are health risks with going to some African nations. Can you assure these runners direct, or near direct comfortable flights and that they won't have any lingering fatigue when they return. It's easy for us armchair wannabees to dream about what we would do if given the chance to run in Kenya. Maybe USAT&F should give our athlets more incentive to compete at the World Cross Country meet. However they never have.

A guys like Jesse J. or Al Sharp ton are black as a lump of coal as they lives on handouts and on money extorted from government/people/companies.

In my area (Va Beach) there is a HUGE problem with white policeman killing black men for seemingly no reason. Just a week or so ago they shot and killed an unarmed black man whose only crime was DUI. That seems to be the rule in many cases, not the exception.

Hopefully most of the country is becoming enlightened as most of you say, but there are certainly large, ugly pockets of racism still in existence wherever you go.

The fact is there is no such thing as a 'black attitude' or a 'white attitude'. Attitude belongs only to the individual, for the individual is the only legitmate sovereign in a democracy. Young blacks in America are suffocating themselves by trying to conform to some 'attitude'.

So are the 3 black men in jail innocently in there?
