The Dixie Chicks were a good bluegrass band that made no money and they transformed themselves into a mediocre country crossover band and made millions.

awards won does not equal talent. You are being sold music by a company. The dixie chicks might as well be pepsi. I realize that that they can play instruments, but they're by no means virtuosos. In a modern recording studio, you can make any shitty-ass recording into something good. The album of the year award goes to the artist as well as the PRODUCER, ENGINEER AND/OR MIXER AND THE MASTER ENGINEER. If you are equating the win to any kind of artistic merit, then you should give much more credit to the production team than the figureheads up front. Of course they can sing.

I think the Grammy moment that summed up the state of music most poignantly was the Smokey Robinson, Lionel Richie, Chris Brown performance. First you have Smokey, one of the greatest song writers/performers/producers in pop music history. This guy did it all. Next Lionel, who again carried on the tradition of artists writing both music and lyrics, then overseeing the production. Today, we champion acts like Chris Brown. Brown's song "Run It!" was written by Scott Storch and Sean Garrett, and Scott Storch produced it. Brown, who is also known for his dancing, in fact uses a choreographer.

Exactly, they have the best marketing firm working for them.

They were fabricated by a marketing form, their old singer was given the boot, and Natalie (the daughter of a big Nashville music wallet) was given the job.

It is crazy to me that we are equating Dixie Chicks fans with Progressive politics.

I consider myself a pretty liberal person, but I would hate to consider myself a Dixie Chicks fan.

Nazis? I don't remember anyone killing Jews in 2003. And just how were they banned? They weren't banned from radio, some powerful radio stations decided not to play them, but they weren't banned throughout the entire country.

Do you understand what free speech is? If I own a radio station and don't let a group air on it am I against free speech? No, free speech is the ability to say what you want, not the ability to have people listen to it or give you a platform.

General rule: Using "Nazi" to describe a political opponent usually means you have no real argument. Unless someone is actually planning to exterminate Jews then the term Nazi doesn't apply.

How could you not like a band like the Chili Peppers (who write all their own lyrics and music) over an act that is just a bunch of "pretty" faces who can sing (in many people's opinions, not mine). Creativity, talent, music from their own experiences, etc. The awards should go to the real artists (not that the real artists probably even care what the music industry thinks, but that's another point). This is a really rambling post off the top of my head, but you get the idea.

The dixie chicks, that is all three, were involved in writing the words and music to all but one of their songs on their new CD, with the help from one other person on each song. That one song where they all didn't contribute to was written by two of them and cheryl crowe.

You may not care much for them but at least get your facts straight. They write the music and words to almost all of their songs, with the help of one other writer. This is a great sign of a very invovled and passionate musicans.

Whether you like the Dixie Chicks or not is irrelevant. Whether I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers or not is irrelevant. Can you even begin to argue that the Dixie Chicks put together more creativity, higher quality musicianship, more well written songs, etc. on their album than the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Gnarls Barkley? Pop and country albums (unless something very unique and outside of the box) should never be winning best album of the year, and this is no exception!
