What sort of standard do runners have to run usually before they are offered sponsorship by company such as nike, addidas etc?
Sub 1:48 800
Sub 4 Mile ~ 3:40 1500
Sub 13:30 5k
Sub 28:30 10k?
Sub 65 Half?
Sub 2:15 Marathon?
Too high, too low?

Are you talking equipment, clothing, shoes etc or money?I use to run for Nike and Reebok just clothes/shoes etc.I was a sub 30/10km sub 1:06/half and a sub 49/10 miles etc.It was my experince then and now with current athletes if you run those times you can get shoe/clothing sponsorship. In regards to money I would imagine you have to run faster then the times you listed.
Oh yea it never hurts to be friends with someone who is currently sponsored ie politics plays a role.
In the UK, companies like Puma and Brooks and to a lesser extent Addidas and Asics give kit to several road/xc guys who are sub 30 10km, sub 65 1/2 mara and sub 2.16 marathon. Seems harder for women in non track endurance events unless you have model looks as few women that have not had full GB vests at a major games get kit.
If you are young (U20) and run good times on the track (national champion) its also likely you will be given kit. If you are considered the great hope for 2012 like HAA or Pigeon, Nike will be banging down your door to sign you up.
In terms of getting cash from a shoe company, its probably not disimilar to the qualification for lottery. I'd say all athletes on world class prog get cash and bonuses from their shoe company. Making the GB team for a major champs wouldn't automatically get you cash, but making the top 8 at euros (not CWG) in a major event (not some shitty field event or relay) probably would get you cash
just market yourself well, look at dean, you have to be valuable to the company. you can't just run decent times and have no personality. you must market yourself well.
Exactly, you must market yourself. There was a recent US guy - in the past 6 - 8 years - who was sub 28 and sub 13:30 who didn't get jack. He had zero personality and was unmarketable.
Running around in circles fast does not generate cash.
Ultimately it is all about what you can do for the company, not what the company can do for you. By doing for the company - it may mean more sales of their product; adding presteige to their company by simply having runner x in their stable of athletes; or simple charity - I ran in college, I am now a succesfull business owner and would like to support competitve running or runner x. Nothing more, nothing less.
