Looking at the results, we should be ENCOURAGED. A quick glance at the times showed a large gap between Dathan and the "2nd pack".

1. Losing to K. Bekele: Welcome to the rest of the world.

2. Eluid Kipchoge: This man set down a world's best 10k in Madrid, running 26:54. Dathan finished 11 seconds back of him.

3. Dathan was the first "not world famous African athlete" across the line. Look at the names, Bekele, Kipchoge, Tadesse, Joseph, Gebremariam. That's good company (even if you're the end of the line).

Anyways, I'm encouraged by the performance, and look to see how fit he is in a few weeks for US XC Nationals.

ritz isnt that much better than bairu. ritz just came off a marathon, meaning that he has been doing many more miles, longer and harder. bairu is just getting started. hes done nothing fast at all. bairu is much better than he showed.

Well the RESULTS SAY Bairu got it handed to him.

ritz is better than bairu, but hard to say its always going to be a minute over this distance. A race against some of the best in the world is a weird way to get started for Bairu. And didn't he win the Canadian meet a month ago.......I think he is more involved than just getting started.

I watched the race on TV here in Ireland.

Bairu ran with the front group for about the 1st 10 mins of the race although he looked to be working pretty hard to stay in contact(at the back of the front group) and gradually faded back.

On the other hand Ritz ran up the front of the group looking fairly comfortable until around the 15 min point where tadesse put in a huge surge to break the race apart.

It was shortly after this that Bekele got away with kipchoge working hard to stay in contact for a few mins.

In my opinion Kipchoge gave up a bit once Bekele got away from him.

Ritz looked to be cruising when the group was running together, however once the break was made each of the times they showed him he seemed to be working really hard.

Tadesse came on strong again to finish fairly close to Bekele but Bekele just looked awesome and definitely had another gear or 2 if he had needed them.

Anyway just my take on how the race went and how the guys looked.
