I picked up a Starter Fleece running jacket for $11 and a windbreaker/pants combo for $12. While I don't need (or want) to match, it's getting really cold, and this stuff seems pretty good.
Any other experiences?

Never bought running clothes from Wal-Mart but I do have some from Target. The Champion stuff at Target is pretty damn good and cheap too. I have some dry fit stuff from them.
Yeah, it has some drifit like name too. Do you ever wonder if it is anything close to the expensive stuff.
Target running shorts are pretty decent.
+1 on the Target/Champion stuff. Dirt frickin' cheap and works as well as any of my expensive Pearl Izumi shit.
I get black synthetic bikini briefs from Walmart. They are great for running in as they do not retain moisture and chafe like cotton briefs do. Only about $5 bucks a pair.
I am a dude that is comfortable with my masculinity so there is no need to wear boxers to look cool.
I have got tights from there. Lasted longer than my Asic tights. I get all my running sox there too. They also have lots of tech fiber shirts.
The dry fit shirts are great. I got a shirt & 2 long sleeves from Walmart 3 years ago & they've lasted longer than my Nike and Asics stuff.
I get my "wal-free's" there. They are called sand n' sun and I have 600 miles and counting. Very similar to the Nike Free's...only they are 6.99 regular price (I usually get mine on sale).

call that +2... good construction, looks fine, and it's hard to argue with a piece of cloth.
This is a great thread...pleasantly surprised to see that everyone isn't a brand-pig...while I love the logo gear as much as anyone...fact is...stuff from Target works just as well and is 10% of the cost. A no-brainer for those that don't need to be a show pony in the attire department.
I've been wondering about the quality of the Wal-Mart brand, since I saw it advertised. Great news that it works good.
Who cares what name is on it, as long as it works!
i bought a black starter mock turtleneck "dri-fit" top about 2 years ago, and i love it. it works really well and it was about $12 or so.
also, sometimes marshalls and ross have good finds. i picked up a pair of katana racers, size 11.5 for $49 at nordstrom rack last week and vaporflys in 11.5 for $40 also at the rack. i won't be needing the racers for a while, but a deal like that is CRAZY and eastbay sold out of my size fast!
i've also found mayflys at nordstrom rack for $29, and there are a bunch of free's 5.0 there for about $50 too.
what are the "wal-frees"? any link?
Athletic Works is the brand that walmart carries (along with starter and others). AW makes "underarmour" t-shirts and long sleeves as well as "dri-fit" t-shirts and long sleeves. I have the long sleeve "underarmour" and a few "dri fit" t-shirts and they are great. 5-10 bucks a pop for each is so worth it.
Actually, I think I will go get me some more.
I've never been able to find the wal-free's on-line anywhere. The company that makes them is Sand-n-sun and they are basically sold as a water/beach shoe. They make about 10 different models I've tried 4 that looked the most appropriate. 2 of the models are similar to the adidas rat racer and the other the nike free.
Me and my buddy take them into running shoe stores all the time and the apppear very curious at first (they look like a pair of racing flats) until they find out they are from wal-mart and then they brush them aside.
My first pair of running shoes ever was some Nike's from Walmart. They were super cheap, like <$25, and I believe they were Nike Cortez or a similar model ('89 or '90). First thing I ever owned that was Nike brand, and I remember thinking it was odd that Walmart carried Nike shoes.
I agree-- Target has some decent running apparel (as well as reasonably priced clothes in general).
walmart has never sold Nike
I'd gotten my last pair of shoes from a running store in SLO some 15 years ago, adidas that cost 95 bucks. They worked great. For a week. Then they curled up, were worthless and hurt my feet. I was totally ticked off, what a waste of 95 bucks. That was more than 15 years ago and I haven't been in a running store since.
So I went to walmart and they had a good looking shoe for $8.86 which I got, ran in the next morning then went back and got 7 more pair of them the next day. Since then I've gotten all of my running shoes from walmart, the athletic works silver star brand, used to be 8 something and has gone up to 9, still a great price. These are like running shoes used to be in the 60's and 70's before RW and podiatrists started messing with them.
I got a pair of beach shoes from walmart a few years ago, with nylon uppers and rubber soles for $6 and ran in those for a year. They slipped right on my feet and I loved them. I got my dress shoes from walmart for $10, and the rest of the time I either go barefoot or else wear a top quality pair of sandals that I got from there and don't recall what they cost but it must have been $10 or less.
They have a nylon brief that is 4 or $5 that I use to run in every morning, and just put any of my running short shells over the top of them, sans the liners that have been cut out from inside.
So far I've not gotten any tops or shorts for running from there but have a supply and haven't been looking. When I do need some though, you probably have an idea of where I'll be looking.
I got a great running top at Target for like 10 bucks
I liked the Champion basketball shorts so much, I bought them in every color Target had.

You'd think, but we found these very basic, cheap Nike's there.
