Will people actually watch a race that long? And seriously, while anyone who does that certainly merits respect, nobody would care. Even if they were hardcore runners, even if they had the time to spend.
Watching people running slowly for hours has no appeal. There aren't really surges anywhere close to fast, and there won't likely be a near close finish.
There's nothing that would appeal to spectators.
Plus it kind of downgrades the idea of the Marathon being the Ultimate endurance challenge to the average person. The Marathon is the only distance race that appeals to the average yuppie.
