I agree that stuffing your face would not be the best option, because doing that now will lead to unhealthy habits after you become an ideal weight.

well i'm 6'6 160 and i don't think i'm too thin
I'll chime in as well--I'm 6' and 130-135...(obviously I'm a guy)...too thin?? maybe?
"not allowed to run"?? Are you kidding me? Are you wearing a burka too? who says so? Go run. to hell with 'em
look i know that runners can somehow struggle to keep their weight up, my wife is an elite distance runner, 5'9" and weighs about 118... we have her eating constantly otherwise she will get even skinnier
to the girl who isn't allowed to run until she gains weight, well good... eat for goodsakes
yes stuff yourself whatever it takes... i kind of agree with the doctor
do you see many of the elites being too skinny - no
look at blake russell, jen rhines, carrie tollefson
they are lean but they look great... not too skinny
i run about 80mpw and I eat
i just don't get the downside to minny and the other girl eating as much as they can right now
1) you will be healthier if you can gain weight
2) gaunt is not attractive
3) your running will not suffer if you are that skinny and you gain weight
4) eating can be enjoyable, it is not punishment
damn, people are so obsessed... and i'm not talking about you girls
the one poster responded... no don't stuff yourself you'll build bad habits for later on
get over it, you need to gain weight now
The cut off for anorexia (in terms of the weight criteria) is a BMI of 17.5
She has a BMI of 16.6
They are probably concerned for her health. 5'6 and 103 is very slight. It's similar to being 5' and 85.
Maybe she is healthy, but I would reckon 95% of girls won't be at that height/weight. Also, we don't know the full picture, as in whether there were any other contributory factors in them deciding she couldn't run.
Also, eating much more than NON-running friends isn't an indicator of health.
thank you, yes good to hear someone else with the same thoughtsif you run over 70 mpw you probably better be eating way more than the average person... specifically probably at least 700 calories more than an average person

oops did that too fastif you burn around 100 calories per mile and run 70 mpw, the means 10 miles/day or 1,000 burned running alone, so i underestimated... should be eating around 1000 calories extra per daythat is a lot to eat extra so get to work!

a good example of a way too skinny runner
I am almost 22 years old, also 5 foot 2 inches (female) and weigh anywhere from 98-101 lbs. depending on the day. I think I am average sized, too. Of course, that could be because I am constantly around female runners, but still...I see myself as average. Anyway, DO NOT stuff your face to gain weight. I suggest eating foods higher in fiber and protein. Also, start doing abs, pilates, push ups, pull ups, and other kinds of weighlifting without straining yourself too much...this will help you get lean muscle and look great.
No, you are not too thin! You are just right for your height. All these fatties telling you to eat more are just jealous.

I have been getting a lot of flack lately for my weight. I am 5' 2" and weigh 100 lbs. I ran well and I really do watch what I eat...am I too thin?
What is an ideal weight or my height?
Skinny Runner
Is your last name Deak by any chance ??
All of you need to look at the long term disadvantages of low body weight and high impact exercise, like running. Coaches, parents and doctors are concerned because you are much more prone to fractures. Do you want to be 25 and have the bones of a 76 year old woman? If you are in your late teens or early 20s, it is not a good thing to look like a prepubescent girl....... And you will be much healthier and stronger with a few more pounds on you. You don't have to stuff your face at all, just eat a moderate and healthful diet. Coaches and other runners who encourage girls to be be super skinny are doing them a real disservice. Think of all of the excellent female runners who have to sit out a season or are done for good because of stress fractures. That is the body saying that they are working too hard, too long and on too little food.
If you add some solid muscle you will probably look either just the same or even better than you do now.

I'm female D1 runner who is 5' 6" and 103 pounds and I'm frickin not allowed to run until I gain weight. Has anyone else heard of this before? Should I just stuff my face? The doctors say it will make me faster and healthier, but I figure I will just get a bloated belly look and get slower. Anyone heard of this before? Do you think this is reasonable? I'm not anorexic or anything- I eat a reasonable- to large amount of food, definitely much more than my non running friends.
it is not reasonable.
i would leave that school and go somewhere else.
don't endanger your health by doing something that you know is wrong.
No, you are not too thin. That's me on the left:
