Jesus Mary and Joseph that's funny!
"I only half watched it, so I might have missed the explanation, but Shorter is not listed in the results."
I don't think Frank likes being listed in the results. IF there is a chip, I don't think he wears it. He usually is missing from the results of races.
he only ran the 5k...and looked tired, sore and slow...poor guy looked like an old man moving at about 9 minute pace.....and that is NOT a slam at Frank...he has nothing to prove. He was there as a paid celeb., by Ameriprise and even did a little (tortured and forced), on air chit chat with an Ameriprise hack, talking about how 'they go all out for their clients like Frank does in his running'.....hey, get your way paid to Orlando, jog a 5k, do some promo work for the sponsor, pocket a check and head back to Boulder....We should all be so lucky....lol....

That's because Frank's not all there.
I saw a part of too. With CBS's involvement in college athletics I wondered why they didn't give 30mins to NCs instead. Instead I just saw some penguins - the camera must add at least 10lbs!
Check out the prizes for this race. No money, just junk.
He was referring to the winner of the M45-49 category.

Why is CBS giving this race air time(1hr)? Today at 1pm cental.

A sorry race but it was great to see pics of Shorter and Rogers together. If nothing else it was worth watching to see them.
It could be that the race bought the air time on CBS. Ironman used to do this (might still). Basically, the race buys 1 hour of air time and then gets to sell the ad time. Essentially this is how infomercials work and that was just an infomercial for the area and the products.
If Chicago were to do that, some network would listen. The problem there being that buying 2+ hours of air time on a Sunday during football season is more difficult than 1 hour in that time slot. Chicago could then sell as much air time as it wanted.
Remember the Master's a few years back (and still). It limits the commercial time but rewards CBS handsomely for doing so.
Did you see the Maui Marathon on TV as well! There was this Hawaiian guy doing a Haka type dance on his way to a 246 Marathon. ALso they profiled this one white dude that ended up running 310.
It is a commercial for retirement products.
I am sure CBS sold the entire block of time out.
Here's the story. Ameriprise Financial owns the race, and purchased a full hour of air-time on CBS Sports Spectacular. Ameriprise then hires Salmini Films, a New Jersey producer of action sports programs, to tape the show. Ameriprise also hires, Rodgers, Shorter, Stones and Reavis to appear on the program.
Now here's the best part: The little group of elite athletes, mostly foreigners who are based in Florida from November to April anyway, are instructed to run slowly and in a group, so they make for a "better" television show. They are told to stay together for at least 5 miles, then can race for the win. The comedy started when a local athlete, Laura Drake who self-entered, wasn't in on the fix and was actually trying to compete (imagine that). Two of the elites caught Drake, but she was not included in the top overall results because she wasn't designated "elite" before the race.
ANY race can get on TV under this method by buying the hour of air-time like Ameriprise did, who gets back part of the investment by re-selling some of the advertising time to others. I wonder how much that cost?
