A sorry race but it was great to see pics of Shorter and Rogers together. If nothing else it was worth watching to see them.

It is a commercial for retirement products.
I am sure CBS sold the entire block of time out.
wow! I cant believe they are showing some of shorters and rogers classic races from the past! great stuff! both are getting some interview time to! glad i watched!
It shows how little effort the other races make to get on TV.
This bs race was on tv for the same amount of time as the NYC Marathon. Yet the XC Champs which CBS has the rights too are not on, the Chicago Marathon is not on, etc.
But sports are taken seriously when they are broadcast on TV live. Unfortunately there one race shown live on national tv in the US-the Boston Marathon.
Is it me or was that bullshit with the cameraman telling the womens chase back about Laura Drake being in the lead? They would have probably caught up anyway but shouldn't the elites know where their competition is?
I agree. Also wouldnt some faster Americans be in this race if they knew it would be on t.v. I could have jogged and made it on t.v. apparantly.

Bill Rogers still looks good.

I can't believe a guy with no legs racing on a skateboard started on the front line with the racers! And such a narrow starting line.

The important thing is he won his division.
Have I ever told you about how I won the running shoe division in the South Pole Thon?
that HAD to be a long course or something...those times just didn't jive with the quality of those top 3 guys and the effort they were putting out....31:30 or whatever it was? No way....

The website says it is certified:
"Attention: IRISH SPRING 10K and JIF & SMUCKERS 5K participants! These certified courses will be timed using the ChampionChip. All entrants must pick up the ChampionChip on race day. If you want to use your own chip, please indicate your chip number on the entry form."
http://www.runnersclassic.com/registration.htmlthey were jogging and didnt roll till the last mile. the m's 5k leader was running with them and he had on hoops shorts and a t-shirt.
the w's race was sad. i feel bad for the american woman who was leading. thats garbage that they went back and told those women she was actually winning. they hammered the last 2 miles and still were in the 37's. We had faster turkey trots here in chicago.
at least 10 or so 'local hot shots' in any city could run faster than that.....no name guys (except in their cities)....I used to run every 10k between 30:30 and 32 minutes, for years and rarely won anything.

Aggreed! He still has a smooth, easy, effortless stride! He looked good running! Some of our elite should try coping it!

I only half watched it, so I might have missed the explanation, but Shorter is not listed in the results.
Also, does anyone know how we might get recordings of some of those races rodgers and shorter ran back in the day? I'm amazed that they still exist. For example, I had never seen film of Rodgers in 75 boston, or that footage from NY 76. Great, great stuff. I agree with the comment above, too. Some of our top runners have that silky form that Rodgers and Shorter had, but - and maybe I'm wrong - but it seeems that proportionally fewer have that nice stride among our top runners today. Not to start the whole minimalist thing again, but could it have something to do with the shoes we wear these days?
I watched the first 15 minutes, then turned the TV off to do other things. The idea that US TV can devote an hour to such fluff (it looked pretty much like anyone's local roadrace) while not showing the major summer Euro meets is...well...totally American, and not a surprise at all.
