One week ago was my peak 5000m. I ran the 5000m in 16:00.57. It was an All-Out effort with good competition. The race itself was perfect, but I was .58 off of my goal. Obviously, I wanted to be under 16 minutes. I am 29 years old and my 5000m days are almost gone (I am planning a move up to the marathon, which would adversly affect my 5k times) so instead of taking time off I trained this past week and performed a workout and I will do so this week also. This Sunday I want to be under 16 minutes, BUT theres no races in sight for a while that I can hop into. So I must try to break 16 minutes solo. Well, almost solo. I am getting a few people to pace with me for segments of the effort. I am also having it recorded and bringing the wife. All this is to help me stay focused. So, is it possible? I am treating this just like race along with all my pre-race rituals and what not. Any other suggestions to keep me at an all out pace without actually "racing" somebody besides myself and the clock.
