I think I'm going to call it quits with collegiate running and just train on my own. I enjoy that more, anyways.
Anyone else do the same thing and regret it? Should I stick it out even if the passion is not there anymore?

Running on your own is a boring, stick in there until you passion comes back. Ten years from know you will be kicking yourself!
Do what you feel.
If you really do enjoy training on your own, then by all means do that. But give the team thing another try...if it still doesn't work out, then train on your own. The last thing you want to do is regret quitting the team, and having to live with that the rest of your days.
Running on your own is only boring if you don't have a passion for what you're doing.
MLW is right. Stick it out, you'll be happy that you did.
Remember this: You will find and meet many people who quit track in college and regret it. You wont find many who quit track and were like "I'm so glad I joined the frat and partied and blew off track!"
And EVERYBODY you meet who ran track throughout college had some hardships along the way and are glad they stuck it out. Plus, dont be a friggin quitter. You made a commitment to your team so see it through.
I decided not to run in college (freshmen year) and have lost all motivation to go out and run.
But, I'm still a freshman, so maybe I can still get in good enough shape for next XC season...

I totally disagree with you. First off, just because you quit the team doesn't mean you automatically join a frat and quit running.
Second, I hated my track coach and the program my 4th and 5th years, but I kept going because I thought since I love track, I would look back and regret quitting. I finally decided not to run outdoor my last year, and it was my time in college. I got really into my academics and my internship and had a blast. I wish I had quit sooner.
Third, I'm running faster now than I was in college (and so are a lot of my friends) because we aren't overtrained and overraced.
Fourth, if you really hate it that much, you're probably a drain on the morale of the team and the resources, so do them a favor and leave! No one needs your negative energy around. Nor do they need to be spending money on shoes and meals (and a scholarship?) for someone that doesn't want to be there.
College running isn't for everyone. Stick it out for the rest of the semester or the year and see if it's just a phase, but if it isn't, then you shoudl quit.
You quit your last semester!? You let down your team and your school and you are forever a quitter.
It is great that you are running faster now but you should not have quit on your team in the homestretch.
